There are three rules occurring in this question. The square at the top left is in a pattern of ‘twos’ in that for the first two boxes in the sequence it is shaded black, it then changes to stripes for two boxes and then reverts back to black for the final two. The box at the bottom left alternates between being there and not being there as the sequence runs from left to right. The final rule relates to the two right hand boxes. The bottom one always stays in the same position but the top one is moving down and then back up again. It moves from top to middle, to bottom, to middle to top.

In this sequence, the black ‘frame’ around the outside of the box disappears one side at a time as the sequence progresses. The sides are ‘removed’ in a clockwise direction (so the right-hand one first, then the bottom, then the left, then the top) and then once all have disappeared they reappear in the same order that they disappeared (so the right-hand one returns first). A second element is a shaded square that first appears in the top left-hand corner right next to the black frame. This square moves around inside the frame one corner at a time. It moves in an anti-clockwise direction. The third and final part of the question are the two black shaded squares in the center of the shape. Their positions alternate as the sequence progresses: they start out with the left-hand one at the top and the right-hand one at the bottom and then they swap so that the left-hand one is at the bottom and the right-hand one is at the top. They continue to do this with each step in the sequence.

There is a central figure and four figures with one in each corner: (i) The central figure firstly increases in size over a series of three, then decreases in the same fashion; (ii) The central figure changes from white, to having a dotted outline, to black; and (iii) The four figures rotate around the four corners, moving two corners at a time.

There are four rows, each containing a set of partially formed ovals. The same four rows appear in each block, but in a different order. In each step of the series the bottom row is moved to the top. This shifts the order of the rows, so that the first row becomes the second, the second row becomes the third and so on.

Each block in the series contains a central figure inside a larger shape: (i) The central figure firstly gradually increases in size; (ii) Secondly changes in colour from white to beige to black, then back to white and so on; (iii) The larger figure changes from a ‘square with rounded corners’ to a square to a pentagon, then back to a ‘square with rounded corners’, and so on.

The simple rule in this question is that the number of grey arrows in the box below must equal the number of black shaded shapes in the box above. There are three grey arrows below the missing box so the correct answer must contain three black shapes.

In each step, the element at the upper-right position gets enlarged, inverts vertically, and reaches the lower-left corner; the existing element at the lower-left position, is lost and a new small element appears at the upper-right position.

In the question the key rule is that the number of 'star' shapes in the central column must always equal the number of double circle shapes.

If there are no star shapes there should be no circle shapes. If there are three star shapes, there should be three circle shapes. Option F is the only one that abides by this rule.

Hence,the correct option is (F).

i) Rule one: the number of diagonal lines decreases by one each block until there are zero, then increases by one each block (presumably up to a maximum, but we don't know for sure). Since the second image has two lines, the third image (the one we are looking for) must have 1. C, D or F and satisfy this rule.

ii) Rule two: one horizontal line is added to the same diagonal line from one block to the next. Therefore, the third image must contain three horizontal lines on the same diagonal. Only C satisfies this rule.
