Read the statement with regard to frog. Which of the statement is/are correct and incorrect?
    (i) The medulla oblongata passes out through foramen of Monro and continues into the spinal cord.
(ii) Vasa efferentia are 10-12 in number that arises from testes
(iii) Ovaries have no functional connection with kidneys
    (iv) Frogs are uricotelic

    Solution

In frog, the medulla oblongata passes out through foramen magnum and continues into spinal cord. Frogs are ureotelic.

  • Question 2
    4 / -1

Identify the incorrect statement about frog.

    Solution

There are 10 pairs of cranial nerves that extend between the brain and various head regions and certain viscera. According to some workers, the 0 or terminal nerves are also present so that the actual number becomes 11 pairs.

  • Question 3
    4 / -1

Which of the following statements is incorrect about the frog?
    (i) Eyes are bulged out and covered by a nicitating membrane that protects them while in water.
(ii) On either side of the eyes a membranous tympanum (ear) receives sound signals.
(iii) The hind limbs end in four digits and they are larger and muscular than fore limbs that end in five digits.
(iv) Feet have webbed digits that help in swimming.
    (v) Frogs exhibit sexual dimorphism

    Solution

In frog, the hind limbs end in five digits and they are larger and muscular than fore limbs that end in four digits.

  • Question 4
    4 / -1

Which of the following statements is correct about the respiration in frog?
    (i) In frog, cutaneous and pulmonary respiration are found
(ii) A pair of elongated pink hollow lungs are found in thorax.
(iii) During aestivation and hibernation, gaseous exchange takes place through skin.

    Solution

In water, frogs respire through skin (cutaneous respiration). When on land, buccal cavity, skin and lungs, all act as respiratory organs. The respiration by lungs is known as pulmonary respiration. Lungs are a pair of elongated pink hollow structures found in the thorax. During aestivation and hibernation, gaseous, exchange takes place through skin.

  • Question 5
    4 / -1

Following are given four statements (i) - (iv) related to frog. Read the statements carefully and select the option that identifies two correct statements.
     (i) The ovaries are situated near kidney and there is no functional connection with kidneys.
(ii) Vasa efferentia enter the kidneys on their side and open into Bidder's canal.
(iii) There are twelve pairs of cranial nerves arising from the brain.
(iv) RBCs are enudeated and contain red coloured pigment namely haemoglobin.

    Solution

In female frog, ovaries are irregular shaped, tubulated structures attached to the kidneys with the help a membrane called mesnverium The ovaries has no internal connection with kidneys. In male frog, there are present 10-12 fine tubes called vasa efferentia that connect the testes to the kidneys on each side. They open into the anterior part of Bidder's canal. In frog, there are ten percent of canial nerves. RBCs are nucleated and  contained the coloured pigment namely himoglobin.

In a frog, if a hole is punched in the floor of its buccal cavity, then the frog will not die as:

    Solution

In addition to buccopharyngeal respiration, frog also respires through lungs (pulmonary respiration). So, if a hole is punched in the floor of its buccal cavity the frog doesn't die.

  • Question 8
    4 / -1

In frog, mesorchium is a thin fold of membrane extending between

    Solution

In frog, there is present a cylindrical testis near each kidney, being suspended by mesorchium. There arise several then vasa efferntia from each testis that emerges through mesorchium and join the uriniferous tubules of the posterior part of the kidney to open into the Bidder's canal which in turn open into the ureter.

  • Question 9
    4 / -1

The Bidder's canal is found in

    Solution

Bidder's canal found in the kidney of frog and as urinogenital canal opening into ureter. It helps in excretion.

  • Question 10
    4 / -1

Read the following statements (P- T) and select the option that correctly fills (i)- (v).
    P. The male frog has a special organ on the throat called _____ (i).
    Q. _____ (ii) membrane is a part of ear and serves to receive sound waves.
    R. Dermis of the frog contains sac-like ______ (iii) glands
    S. Tongue of frog is _____ (iv).
    T. ______ (v) respiration takes place in lungs on land.

    Solution

    P. The male frog has a special organ on the throat called (i) 'vocal sac'.
    Q. (ii) 'Tympanic' membrane is a part of the ear and serves to receive sound waves.
    R. Dermis of the frog contains sac-like (iii) 'mucous' glands.
    S. Tongue of frog is (iv) 'bilobed'
    T. (v) 'Pulmonary' respiration takes place in lungs on land.
So, the correct answer is '(i)- vocal sac; (ii)- Tympanic; (iii)- mucous; (iv)- bilobed; (v)- Pulmonary'.
