Hormones from kidneys are not involved in the breakdown of blood proteins. This is a function of cortisol.

Anterior lobe of pituitary secretes prolactin that targets mammary glands and triggers lactation.

Prolactinoma refers to the growth of tumours on pituitary gland. It can result in the release of high levels of prolactin hormone in the blood.

Anti-diuretic hormone stimulates water reabsorbtion by stimulating insertion of "water channels" or aquaporins into the membranes of kidney tubules. These channels transport solute-free water through tubular cells and back into blood, leading to a decrease in plasma osmolarity and an increase osmolarity of urine.

The cAMP is termed as the second messenger in the mechanism of action of follicle stimulating hormone. The cAMP activates existing enzymes of the cell.

Pars intermedia produces only one hormone i.e. melanocyte stimulating hormone (MSH). MSH stimulates the production and release of melanin by melanocytes in skin and hair.

Secretin acts on pancreas and stimulates secretion of water and bi-carbonate ions.

Low progesterone levels can make it difficult for women to get pregnant or carry a baby to full term.

Zona reticularis produces androstenedione. It is the precursor to testosterone in humans.

Melanocyte stimulating hormone is secreted by intermediate lobe of pituitary (pars intermedia) and is a peptide hormone. It influences chromatophore system in fishes, amphibians etc. In man, this hormone controls the changes in the colour of skin.
