  • Question 1
    4 / -1

Three faradays of electricity are passed through molten Al2O3, aqueous solution of CuSO4, and molten NaCl taken in separate electrolytic cells. The amounts of Al, Cu and Na deposited at the cathodes will be in the molar ratio:

    Solution

  • Question 2

A rectangular loop of sides 8 cm and 2 cm with a small break in it is moving out of a region of uniform magnetic field of 0.3 T, directed normal to the loop. What is the emf developed across the break if the velocity of the loop is 1 cms-1 in a direction normal to the longer side of the loop?

    Solution

    Given:

    Length of the rectangular wire, l = 8 cm = 0.08 m

    Width of the rectangular wire, b = 2 cm = 0.02 m

Hence, area of the rectangular loop,

    A = lb

    = 0.08 × 0.02

    = 16 × 10−4 m2

    Magnetic field strength, B = 0.3 T

    Velocity of the loop, v = 1 cms-1 = 0.01 ms-1

Emf developed in the loop is given as:

    e = Blv

    = 0.3 × 0.08 × 0.01 = 2.4 × 10−4 V

    = 0.02 V

  • Question 3

Which of the following statement is correct with regard to Bergmann's rule?

    Solution

Animals of cold areas possess a thick coat of hair, scales, feathers, and subcutaneous fat (Gloger's rule). Warm-blooded animals (birds, mammals) of colder areas are of larger size as compared to those of warmer areas (Bergmann's rule). Extremities of mammals (ears, snout, tail, legs) of colder areas are shorter than those of warmer regions (Allen's rule). Birds have narrow wings in cold areas as compared to those of warmer regions (Ranch's rule). Fish of colder waters tend to have more vertebrae (Jordan's rule).

Two identical spheres A and B lie on a smooth horizontal circular groove at opposite ends of a diameter. A is projected along the groove and at the end of time t, it impinges on B. If e is the coefficient of restitution, the second impact will occur after a time

A domain in ferromagnetic iron is in the form of a cube of side length 1μm. Estimate the number of iron atoms in the domain and the maximum possible dipole moment and magnetisation of the domain. The molecular mass of iron is 55 g/mole and its density is 7.9 g/cm3. Assume that each iron atom has a dipole moment of 9.27 × 10−24 A m2:

A compound contains three elements A,B and C, if the oxidation of A = +2,B = +5 and C = −2, the possible formula of the compound is:

    Solution

Here compound A3(BC4)2 is possible as in it sum of oxidation numbers is zero as follows:

    3 (+2) + 2 × 5 + 8 (−2) = 0

  • Question 7

At a particular locus, the frequency of ′A′ allele is 0.6 and that of ′a′ is 0.4. What would be the frequency of heterozygotes in a randomly mating population of equilibrium?

In Cannabis, pollination is carried out by:

    Solution

Anemophily is the process of pollination by wind and is seen in Cannabis plants. Cannabis produces a well-exposed colorless flower and a large number of small pollen grains (around 5 lac pollens from the single flower) with hairy style and stigma.

  • Question 9

If the mass and moment of inertia of a solid sphere and spherical shell are the same, the ratio of their radii will be:

  • Question 10

A dioecious flowering plant prevents both

    Solution

Dioecious plants bear male and female flowers on two plants. Thus they prevent autogamy (pollination in the same flower, bisexual flower) as well as geitonogamy (cross-pollination between male and female flowers on the same plant).
