  • Question 1
    1 / -0

    If x/15 * x / 135 = 1, then x is equal to

    Solution

    x/15 * x/135 = 1

    x2 = 15 x 135

    x = 45

  • Question 2
    1 / -0

A shopkeeper purchased 70 books at the rate of Rs. 2 per book. Out of these, 2 books were damaged. At what rate should he sell the remaining books to earn 20% profit?

    Solution

    The shopkeeper has spent 70 x 2 = 140 rupees

    To have a profit of 20%, he should sell them for 140 + 28 = 168 rupees

Number of remaining books = 68

     SP per book = 168/ 68 = 2.47

  • Question 3
    1 / -0

If 25% of a number is greater than another number by 5 and the sum of the numbers is 70, then what is the ratio of the larger number to the smaller number?

    Solution

Let the numbers be x and y.

    Then, 25% of x = y + 5

    or, x = 4y + 20

    And x + y = 70.

    or, 4y + y + 20 = 70

    or, 5y = 50

    Thus, y = 10 and x = 60.

    Hence, required ratio = x : y = 6 : 1

  • Question 4
    1 / -0

The average of 6 numbers is 19. If the average of 5 of these is 20, then what is the sixth number?

    Solution

    Total of 6 numbers = 6 x 19 = 114

    Total of the first 5 numbers = 5 x 20 = 100

     Sixth number = 114 - 100 = 14

  • Question 5
    1 / -0

1/5 of 2/3 of 6/7 of a number is 8. What is the number?

    Solution

    Let the number be 'x'.

    1/5 of 2/3 of 6/7 of x = 8

    1/5 * 2/3 * 6/7 *x =8

    4/35 * x =8

    x = 70

  • Question 6
    1 / -0

An alarm clock gives out siren as follows. One time at 1 o`clock, 2 times at 2 o`clock, 3 times at 3 o`clock and so on. Further, it gives siren only once at half-past an hour. During a span of 24 hours, how many times would it give the siren?

    Solution

    As per the question, the siren would be given 1 + 2 + 3….. + 12 times in 12 hours i.e. ∑12

    =12 x 13/2 = 78

There would be 24 sirens for the half-past an hour per 24 hours.

    Hence, 156 + 24 = 180 sirens

  • Question 7
    1 / -0

An autorickshaw charges Rs. 4.50 up to the first 2 km and then, Rs. 0.60 for every km thereafter. If a person travels `k` km (k > 2), then how much would he have to pay?

    Solution

The fare for the first 2 km is 4.5 and 0.6(k - 2) for the remaining distance. Hence, he pays 4.5 + 0.6(k - 2).

  • Question 10
    1 / -0

A wholesaler charges the price of 27 pens for 30 pens to a retailer. The retailer sells them at the marked price. What is the gain for the retailer?

    Solution

Let the SP of the pen be Re. 1 (for easy calculation)

Given that CP of 30 pens = SP of 27 pens = Rs. 27

For the retailer, the SP of 30 pens is Rs. 30

     Profit % = 30 - 27/27 * 100 = 11 1/9%
