The remainder of each of the numbers is 8 as (12 - 20), (17 - 25), (27 - 35) and (32 - 40) leave a common reminder as 8.

LCM of 20, 25, 35 and 40 is 1400.

Hence, the desired number = 1400 + Remainder

= 1400 + (-8) = 1392

Since one of the pumps is not functioning out of the five pumps, the work is being done at 4/5 ^th of the original rate.

Hence, time taken will be 5/4^th of the original time of 2 hours, i.e. extra 1 /4^th of original time. 

Hence, 25% more time is required. 

Since A can do the job in 4 days, B can do it in 8 days and C can do it in 16 days.

Therefore, all of them working together will finish 1/4 +1/8+1/16 = 4+2+1 /16 = 7/16 work in one day 

Hence, number of days taken = 16/2 = 2(2/7)days

The total of six numbers = 6 x 3.95 = 23.7

The sum of the two pairs = 2 x 3.4 + 2 x 3.85 = 14.5

Hence, the sum of remaining two numbers = 23.7 - 14.5 = 9.2

Thus, average of the remaining two numbers =  9.2 / 2= 4.6

Solving all the options, we get that option (4) is the answer.

40 x 12 = 480 is not a perfect square

40 x 5 = 200 is not a perfect square

40 x 8 = 320 is not a perfect square

40 x 10 = 400 = 20² is a perfect square 

Since the relative speed is (x + y), the time taken by them to cover p km is = P / x+y

Let 'x' be the time period for which A invested.

Ratio of the profits = Ratio of the investment x Ratio of the time period of investment

 8 * x / 7 * 12 = 20 / 21

=> 8x = 80

=> x = 10

From 4 to 55, the numbers containing 3 as one of the digits are: 

13, 23, 30 to 39, 43 and 53, i.e. 14 numbers

From 4 to 55, the numbers which are divisible by 3 are:

The numbers that are repeated between the two sets are 30, 33, 36 and 39, i.e. 4 numbers.

Total numbers from 4 to 55 = 52

Total numbers that either are divisible by 3 or contain 3 as one of the digits = 14 + 17 - 4 = 27

Remaining numbers = 52 - 27 = 25
