  • Question 1
    1 / -0

Jack earns Rs. 15,400 per month. He spends Rs. 4,000 on rent, Rs. 1,500 on clothing, Rs. 3,500 on food and Rs. 2,000 on transportation. How much does he save?

    Solution

    Jack's income = Rs. 15,400
    Total expenditure = 4,000 + 1,500 + 3,500 + 2,000 = Rs. 11,000
    Total savings = 15,400 - 11,000 = Rs. 4,400

  • Question 2
    1 / -0

In an examination, students are awarded 5 points for each correct answer and -2 points for each wrong answer. If a student gave 10 correct answers and 5 wrong answers, then how many points did he score in the exam?

    Solution

Number of right answers = 10
Number of wrong answers = 5
    So, his score will be
    10 × 5 + [ -2 × 5]
    = 50 - 10 = 40

  • Question 3
    1 / -0

Amrita had a jar. She put 150 cookies in the jar. She ate 120 cookies from the jar, then added 50 in the jar and then again ate 65 cookies. How many cookies were left in the jar?

    Solution

Total number of cookies in the jar = 150
    Number of cookies ate by Amrita = 150 - 120 = 30

Number of cookies again added in the jar = 50
    Total number of cookies in the jar now = 30 + 50 = 80

Number of cookies again ate by her = 65
    Cookies left in the jar = 80 - 65 = 15

  • Question 4
    1 / -0

The temperature in Shimla on Monday was 2°C and on Tuesday it was -6°C. Find out the fall in temperature.

    Solution

    Temperature on Monday = 2°C
    Temperature on Tuesday = -6°C
    Fall in temperature = [2 - [-6]]°C = 8°C.

  • Question 5
    1 / -0

    Fill in the blanks:

    (i) The multiplicative identity of integers is __A__
    (i) The integer which is 9 more than -36 __B__
(iii) Every integer more than zero is __C__

    Solution

    (i) The multiplicative identity of integers is 1.
    (ii) Integer which is 9 more than -36 will be (-36 + 9) -27
(iii) Every integer more than zero is positive.

  • Question 6
    1 / -0

State 'T' for true and 'F' for false:

    (i) If -9 < -8, then 9 < 8
(ii) The product of a number and its multiplicative inverse is zero.
(iii) Difference of any two consecutive whole numbers is always 1.
(iv) The product of two positive numbers is sometimes negative.

    Solution

    (i) If -9< -8, then 9 < 8 , it is false as 9 > 8. (False)

(ii) The product of a number and its multiplicative inverse is zero which is false because the multiplicative inverse of a fraction a/b is b/a. For the multiplicative inverse of a real number, divide 1 by the number. So, The product of a number and its multiplicative inverse is always one. (False)

(iii) Difference of any two consecutive whole numbers is always 1. For example: 6 - 5 = 1 (True)

(iv) The product of two positive numbers is sometimes negative which is false because The product of two positive numbers is always positive.

    For example - 6 × 5 = 30

  • Question 7
    1 / -0

    Match the following:

    Column I Column II
    (i) The multiplicative inverse of 6 (a) -1
(ii) The smallest positive integer (b) 1/6
(iii) The greatest negative integer less than zero (c) 3
(iv) Product of successor and predecessor of 2 (d) 1
    Solution

    (i) The multiplicative inverse of 6 is 1/6.
(ii) The smallest positive integer is 1.

(iii) The greatest negative integer less than zero is -1.
    (iv) Product of successor and predecessor of 2 is 1 × 3 = 3.
