  • Question 1
    1 / -0

A football tournament had 3 matches on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The number of spectators on Monday was 56,958 and the number of spectators on Tuesday was 26,542. On Wednesday, the number of spectators was 67,890. How many spectators were present in total in all the matches?

    Solution

From the question it is clear that we have to add the number of spectators for all the three days to find the total number.

    So, 56,958 + 26,542 + 67,890 = 1,51,390

  • Question 2
    1 / -0

Rahul deposited Rs. 26,789 in a bank on Monday and double of it on Tuesday. How much money did he withdraw on Wednesday so that there were 40,000 rupees remaining in his bank account?

    Solution

Money deposited on Monday = Rs. 26,789
    Money deposited on Tuesday =2 x 26789 = Rs. 53,578

    Total amount of money in the account = 26,789 + 53,578 = Rs. 80,367

    So,

Total amount - Amount remaining = Amount that Rahul withdrew
    80,367- 40,000 = Rs. 40,367

  • Question 3
    1 / -0

Sameer goes to his office daily. He walks 1 km 234 m to reach the bus stand and then travels by bus for 20 minutes. The distance travelled by bus is 8 km 34 m. How much distance does he travel in total, if he goes to his office and comes back for 5 days in a week?

    Solution

    Total distance travelled by Sameer in a day = 1 km 234 + 8 km 34 m = 9 km 268 m
    Since he also comes back the same distance;

Total distance travelled from home to office and back home = 18 km 536 m

We have to multiply this distance by 5 to find the total distance travelled in a week.

    i.e. 18 × 5 + 536 × 5 = 90 km + 2,680 m = 92 km 680 m

  • Question 4
    1 / -0

A factory manufactures 850 cycle hubs on one machine in a day. If there are 24 machines running in the factory, then how many cycle hubs will the factory manufacture in the month of July, given there is no holiday on Sundays?

    Solution

From the given information, number of cycle hubs made by 24 machines in a day = 850 x 24 = 20,400

Now, there are 31 days in July and as all Sundays are working.

    So, total number of pieces manufactured = 20,400 × 31 = 6,32,400

  • Question 5
    1 / -0

Venkatesh was working on a two-step problem of Mathematics. He had to work out a calculation of 231 x 26 + 34. Instead of that, he calculated as 231 x 34 + 26. What is the difference in the answers that he calculated?

    Solution

Working out both the calculations, we get
    231 x 26 + 34 = 6,040

Similarly, for the second calculation, we have
    231 x 34 + 26 = 7,880

    So, difference between these two answers = 7,880 - 6,040 = 1,840

  • Question 6
    1 / -0

    Fill in the blanks:

    1. The number 6,57,345 rounded to the nearest ten thousand is ___P___.
    2. The estimated sum of 4,999 and 759 is ___Q___.
    3. The Roman numeral for the number 356 is ___R___.

      P Q R
    A 6,60,000 5,760 CCCLVI
    B 6,57,000 5,860 CCCLIV
    C 6,60,000 5,760 CCCLXI
    D 6,60,000 6,100 CCCLIX
    Solution

The number 65,7345 rounded to the nearest ten thousand is 6,60,000. (As the digit at the thousands place is 7, which is greater than 5, we round it up.)
An estimated sum can be found out as:

    5000 + 760 = 5,760

The Roman numeral for the number 356 is CCCLVI.

  • Question 7
    1 / -0

The sum of the place values of 5 in the greatest and the smallest 4-digit numbers formed by using the digits 3, 7, 5 and 9 (each digit to be used only once) is

    Solution

The greatest 4-digit number formed by using the given digits is 9,753.
    Place value of 5 = 50

The smallest 4-digit number formed by using the same digits is 3,579.

    Place value of 5 = 500

    So, sum = 500 + 50 = 550

      I II III IV
    A T F F T
    B F F F T
    C F T F F
    D T T F F
    Solution

    I. The greatest 3-digit number is 999 and it can be written as CMXCIX. (True)
    II. 1 million = 10 lakh (True)
III. The number 76,830 rounded to the nearest thousand is 77,000, and not 77,800. (False)
IV. The place value of 8 in 45,86,329 is eighty thousand, and not ten thousand. (False)

  • Question 9
    1 / -0

If a new number is formed by interchanging the digits at the ten thousands place and the tens place of the number 54,673, then what is the relation between the new number and the original number?

    Solution

    The given number is 54,673.

After interchanging the ten thousands digit, i.e. 5, and the tens digit, i.e. 7, of the number, we get 74,653.

    74,653 > 54,673
