  • Question 1
    1 / -0

    A number consists of two digits, whose sum is 8. If 36 is subtracted from the number, its digits are interchanged. Which of the following steps is/are required to find the answer.

    Step 1: Let the units digit be x.
    Step 2: Then, tens digit = 8 - x
    Therefore, the number = 10 x (8 - x) + x
    => 80 - 10x + x = 80 - 9x
    Step 3: Subtract 36 from this number, we get 44 - 9x.
    Step 4: Number with digits interchanged is 10x + (8 - x) = 9x + 8
    Step 5: 44 - 9x = 9x + 8
    Step 6: The units digit is 2 and the tens digit is 6.
    Step 7: Thus, the required number is 62.

    Solution

    Here, all the steps are required to find the number.
    The number is 62, and 62 - 36 = 26.

  • Question 2
    1 / -0

    Select the incorrect statement from the following:

    A. To maintain an equation as equal or balanced, the same number is added to or subtracted from both sides of the equation.
    B. If any number is present as the denominator on one side, then it will move to the numerator when transferred to the other side.
    C. In order to maintain an equation as balanced, both sides should be multiplied or divided by the same number.
    D. If a number bears a positive sign on one side of the equation, then it will keep its positive sign when moved to the other side of the equation.

    Solution

    Statement (D) is INCORRECT.

    If a number bears a positive sign on one side of the equation, then it will bear a negative sign when moved to the other side.

  • Question 3
    1 / -0

    Match the following:

    Column - I Column - II
    (a) Mohak's grandmother's age is 10 years more than 5 times Mohak's age. Find Mohak's age, if his grandmother is 80 years old. (1) 10
    (b) Ram has 10 cards less than five times the number of cards Bibek has. Ram has 65 cards. How many cards does Bibek have? (2) 14
    (c) Gagan has 15 more pictures than 6 times the number of pictures Seema has. Gagan has 75 pictures. How many pictures does Seema have? (3) 15
    Solution

    (a)
    Let Mohak's age be x years.
    According to question: 5x + 10 = 80
    => 5x = 70
    => x = 14 yr

    (b)
    Let number of cards with Bibek be x.
    According to question: 5x - 10 = 65
    => 5x = 75
    => x = 15 cards

    (c)
    Let the number of pictures with Seema be x.
    According to question: 6x + 15 = 75
    => 6x = 60
    => x = 10 pictures

  • Question 4
    1 / -0

    You want to distribute 20 sweets among your classmates on your birthday. You are required to distribute equal number of sweets in each of the 5 rows of the class. Which of the following equations would you use to find the number of sweets (s) to be distributed in each row?

    Solution

    Total number of sweets = Number of sweets distributed in each row × Number of rows
    20 = s × 5
    5s = 20

  • Question 5
    1 / -0

    Solve the following equation for q:

    25 - 2q = 15

    Solution

    25 - 2q = 15
    25 - 15 = 2q
    2q = 10
    q = 5

  • Question 6
    1 / -0

    Subtracting 10 from 15 less than thrice a number gives 20 as the result. The number is

    Solution

    Let the number be x.
    According to the question:
    3x - 15 - 10 = 20
    3x = 45
    x = 15

  • Question 7
    1 / -0

    Find the value of 'a' for the following equation to be true:

    18 - (20 - 16 ÷ 4 × 4) + a = 60

    Solution

    The given equation is:
    18 - (20 - 16 ÷ 4 × 4) + a = 60
    18 - (20 - 4 × 4) + a = 60
    18 - (20 - 16) + a = 60
    18 - 4 + a = 60
    14 + a = 60
    a = 60 - 14
    a = 46
