Given number = 1.490 = One ones, four-tenths and nine hundredths

The number smaller than 1.490 is 1.049.

1.049 - One ones, 4 hundredths and 9 thousandths

(i) 0.05 < 0.5 (True)
In this case 0.5 has 5 at tenths place.
0.05 has 5 at hundredths place
so decimal with tenths place as 5 is bigger
∴ 0.05 < 0.5

(ii) 1.23 > 1.2 (True)
In this L.H.S. is 1.23
2 is at tenths place and 3 is at hundredths place.
R.H.S. is 1.2
2 is at tenths place and 0 is at hundredths place.
∴ 1.23 > 1.2

(iii) 0.3 < 0.4 (True)
L.H.S is 0.3 and 3 is at tenths place
R.H.S is 0.4 and 4 is at tenths place.
∴ 0.3 < 0.4

(iv) 0.07 < 0.02 is (False)
L.H.S is 0.07 and 7 is at hundredths place
R.H.S is 0.02 and 2 is at hundredths place
we know 7>2
∴ 0.07 > 0.02
But given 0.07 < 0.02.
∴ it is false

33.333 is given number

3 tens 3 ones 3 tenths 3 hundredths 3 thousandths

33.334 is greater than 33.333

as 4 > 3 and 4 is at thousandth place.

∴ 33.334 > 33.333
