Gujarat: Literacy rate in Gujarat has seen an upward trend and is 78.03 percent as per 2011 population census. Of that, male literacy stands at 85.75 percent, while female literacy at 69.68 percent.

Rajasthan: The male literacy rate was 79.19%, however the female literacy was 52.12%. In 2011, the total number of literates in Rajasthan stood at 3,82,75,282, out of which the number of males was 2,36,88,412, however that of females was 1,45,86,870. Rural literacy rate of Rajasthan as per census 2011 was 61.44%.

Goa: Literacy rate in Goa has seen an upward trend and is 88.70 percent as per 2011 population census. Of that, male literacy stands at 92.65 percent, while female literacy at 84.66 percent.

Mizoram: According to census 2011, the literacy level is 93.91 percent in Kerala and 91.58 percent in Mizoram, among the most literate states in the country. The national literacy rate, according to the 2011 census, is 74.04 percent.

There were 2.10 lakh primary schools in 1950-51. The number of middle schools was 13,600, and that of high and higher secondary schools was 7416. There were 27 universities and 498 colleges in the country.
