Deleted Syllabus of CA Foundation 2026 PDF Download

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has made some updates to the CA Foundation syllabus under the New Scheme of Education and Training. These changes will be effective from 2026.
If you are a CA Foundation student, it is important to understand which topics and chapters have been removed so that you can focus only on the essentials.
In this article, you’ll find a complete list of chapters and topics removed from the CA Foundation 2026 syllabus. The information is explained in simple and clear language so you can quickly understand the changes and plan your preparation with confidence.
Why Did ICAI Remove These Topics?
The reasons for removing the topic are:
-
Reducing the burden of unnecessary studies on students.
-
Removing topics with low practical value at the foundation level.
-
Refining the syllabus to modern accounting, business, and technology standards.
-
Making room for more focused, relevant content.
Entire Papers Removed from CA Foundation
ICAI has removed two full papers from the old CA Foundation syllabus in the 2026 New Scheme. This is the biggest change at the Foundation level.

1 |
Business Correspondence & Reporting |
This was earlier part of Paper 2. It covered business communication, writing skills, and comprehension. Now fully removed. |
|
2 |
Business & Commercial Knowledge |
Previously part of Paper 4. It dealt with business environment, organizations, and commercial awareness. Now completely dropped. |

These two papers are no longer part of the CA Foundation exam. You don't need to study them at all under the 2026 scheme.
Deleted Topics from Paper 3
Paper 3 is now called Business Mathematics, Logical Reasoning & Statistics. The paper still exists in the new scheme. However, ICAI has removed three topics from it.
1. Matrices (Unit II)
Matrices was part of the Business Mathematics section. It covered types of matrices, matrix operations, determinants, and solving simultaneous equations. ICAI removed it because the topic was too math-heavy for the Foundation level. It also had very little practical connection to basic accounting concepts.
2. Time Series (Unit II)
Time Series was a topic under the Business Mathematics section. It covered trend analysis, seasonal variations, and ways to measure time series data. ICAI has removed this topic from the Foundation syllabus. It's better suited for higher levels of the CA course.
3. Syllogism
Syllogism came under the Logical Reasoning section. It involved drawing conclusions from given statements based on formal logic. ICAI has removed it from the 2026 syllabus. Other reasoning topics are more practical and useful for Foundation-level students.

What Remains Unchanged?
It's equally important to know what hasn't changed. The CA Foundation syllabus still has four papers under the new scheme:
-
Paper 1: Principles and Practice of Accounting (Subjective)
-
Paper 2: Business Laws (Subjective)
-
Paper 3: Business Mathematics, Logical Reasoning & Statistics (Objective - MCQs)
-
Paper 4: Business Economics (Objective - MCQs)
Papers 1, 2, and 4 have no major deletions. Their core structure and topics remain the same. The Statistics section within Paper 3 is also completely untouched.
Quick Note on Exam Pattern
There are some important updates to the CA Foundation 2026 exam format. Here are some things you should know:
-
Papers 1 and 2 are subjective. You'll need to write detailed, essay-style answers.
-
Papers 3 and 4 are objective and MCQ-based. A wrong answer will cost you 0.25 marks.
-
The passing marks haven't changed. You still need 40% in each paper and 50% overall.
-
Exams are now held three times a year. The sessions are in January, May, and September.
How Does Knowing Deleted Topics Help You?
Knowing which topics have been removed by ICAI can make your preparation much easier. Here's how:
Save time: You won't study content that's not going to appear in the exam.
-
Stay focused: You can spend more time on topics that actually carry marks.
-
Plan better: Your study schedule and books will stay aligned with the latest syllabus.
-
Lower your stress: A reduced syllabus means fewer topics to cover. That's helpful, especially if you're appearing for the first time.
