A reservation policy applies to students seeking admission to Sainik Schools under AISSEE 2026-27.

According to this policy, 67% of the total seats are reserved for students from the Home State/UT in which the Sainik School is located, while the remaining 33% are reserved for students from other states and union territories.

1. Reservation for Home State/UT and Other States

Home State/UT: 67% of total seats

Other States/UT: 33% of total seats

2. Category-wise Reservation

The further distribution of seats within these two categories (Home State/UT and Other States/UT) is as follows:

  • Scheduled Castes (SC): 15%
  • Scheduled Tribes (ST): 7.5%

Other Backward Classes - Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL): 27%

Thus, approximately 49.5% of total seats are reserved for SC, ST, and OBC-NCL.

3. Reservation for Children of Defense Personnel

Of the remaining 50.5% seats in Home State/UT and Other States/UT, 25% are reserved for children of defense personnel and veterans. This includes current and former servicemen of the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and Indian Navy.

4. Reservation for Girls

10% of seats or 10 seats (whichever is higher) are reserved for girls for admission to Class 6. This reservation applies to all categories (SC, ST, OBC-NCL, General, Defence) to ensure equal opportunities for girls.

5. Other Important Points

  • Candidates from SC/ST/OBC-NCL categories who qualify in the general merit list will be admitted to a general seat, and their reserved quota will not be affected.
  • OBC-NCL candidates can only choose the OBC-NCL category if they are included in the NCBC central list and must also meet the income limit criteria.
  • Vacant seats in other states/UTs may be made available to candidates from their home state/UT. Similarly, vacant seats in the Defence category are given priority to children of Coast Guard and Assam Rifles personnel.
  • All candidates should check the category-wise, school-wise, and class-wise vacancies and merit list information on the respective school's website before applying.

6. Reservation in the New Sainik Schools

Domicile or class criteria are not applicable for admission to the new Sainik Schools, ensuring equal opportunities for all eligible students.
