The Assam government has cancelled the special exam which was proposed to be conducted for Assam Board class X and XII students.
This special exam was regarding the students who are unsatisfied with their result prepared on the ground of alternate evaluation criteria for Assam board class 10th and 12th students.
According to the government's perspective earlier, the actual merit of students can not be assessed without a written examination. This idea was opposed by several student unions including the All Assam Students’ Union (Aasu).
Under the chairmanship of CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday a crucial meeting was held to cancel the special board exam which was scheduled to be held from the 15 September (tentatively).
Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said, “There will be no special board exams this year in Assam. Clause V of the previous notification, where there was a mention of the special exams, has been withdrawn,”

Meeting With Student’s Union
Sarma held a meeting with many student unions to discuss the alternative evaluation criteria required after the cancellation of HSLC and HS exam 2021 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. In this meeting there were other ministers as well such as the Finance minister, handloom & textile minister, etc.
After a quite detailed discussion, all agreed on the specific evaluation criteria. Further, they said that the marks sheet and certification given to the students will be valid for taking admission in the colleges or university and for jobs.
This will apply to all students of SEBA, AHSEC and other boards. Moreover, there will be no rank holder or topper this year. All students will be given only distinction and star marks.
Sarma also directed to conduct the Class IX exam under the SEBA from now on. All schools of the district will have similar question papers held by the District Education Council. He also instructed to share all the data with Seba, of exam results and students who appeared in the examination.
