The Supreme Court on Wednesday has taken up the examination of a plea questioning the policy of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) that makes it mandatory for students of class nine to learn three languages, including two native Indian languages from July 1.
The notice was sent to the Center, CBSE, and NCERT by a bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi seeking their response in two weeks’ time.
As per the recent circular of the Central Board of Secondary Education, the study of three languages, including at least two native Indian languages, has become mandatory for class nine students from July 1.
This policy comes in line with the NEP 2020 and NCF-SE 2023 of the CBSE.
