The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has made it mandatory to create APAAR ID for students of classes 9 to 12 under the 'One Country, One Student ID' scheme.

The board has taken this decision to save all the educational information of the students in one place. This will help in speeding up the digital document verification and admission process of the students.

According to this, it will be mandatory to create APAAR ID for the registration of students from class 9 to 12 from the session of 2026.

What is APAAR ID

APAAR ID is a system to save all the educational information of the students in one place. It is called Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry. It is a 12-digit unique digital ID number for students.

This ID is to keep all the school records, mark sheets, certificates, other academic documents of the students safe. It will record all the academic achievements of every student from school to college. This helps in speeding up the digital document verification and admission process of the students.

Why is Apaar ID necessary

A meeting of CBSE was held in June 2025. In this, it was decided to link the registration of students with standardized identity. Actually, earlier the registration of 9th-11th and the examination list (LOC) of 10th-12th were sent without any fixed identification system, which caused data error and verification problems.

The Ministry of Education has described it as a part of Digital Public Infrastructure for Education. Its purpose is to make their digital educational records available to the students for life and easily.

  • Apaar ID is a means of keeping the entire educational information of the students safe in digital format at one place.
  • This will help prevent duplication of student information.
  • It can also be easily linked to platforms like DigiLocker and Academic Bank of Credits (ABC).
  • This step of CBSE is to strengthen the new education policy and Digital India vision.

Create Apaar ID in this way

CBSE has given clear instructions to create Apaar ID. Under this, before registering students of class 9 to 12, it has to be ensured whether their Apaar ID is created or not. Schools can take the help of UDISE+ portal for this. This work should be ensured before the board exams of class 10th and 12th.
