The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued strict guidelines on mandatory 75% attendance for eligibility for board exams for the 2025-26 session.

👉 CBSE Attendance Rule 2025 Official Notice

As per CBSE's exam bye-laws (Rule 13 and 14), if a student does not complete 75% attendance, he/she will not be able to appear in the board exams.

As an exception, relaxation up to 25% can be given only in some serious cases such as medical emergency, participation in national or international sports, or documentary evidence of family crisis.

CBSE Key Guidelines for Schools

1. Inform students and parents

At the beginning of the session, all students and parents should be clearly informed about the requirement of 75% attendance and the consequences of non-compliance.

2. Leave procedure

  • Application and medical documents are required before going on medical leave.
  • Written application is also mandatory for absence due to other reasons.
  • Absence without application will be considered non-valid.

3. Monitoring of attendance

  • Schools will have to update the attendance register daily.
  • It will be mandatory to show the correct record to CBSE at the time of inspection.

4. Communication with parents

  • It is mandatory to send information to the parents of students with low attendance by registered post, email etc.
  • Keep the record of all communications safe.

5. CBSE inspection
