CBSE Directs Schools to Establish Composite Skill Labs for Enhanced Skill Education

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has told all schools it oversees to set up a 'Composite Skill Lab.' These labs need to have all the right tools and equipment to follow the new guidelines of the National Education Policy (NEP) and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE).

In a recent notice, CBSE explained why these labs are important. They will help students learn practical skills needed for jobs, explore different career options, and develop their entrepreneurial talents.

CBSE also mentioned that many schools currently lack the proper facilities for hands-on training. After discussing this in the 139th Governing Body meeting, CBSE decided that all affiliated schools must create a 'Composite Skill Lab' with the required tools and machinery to fully follow the NEP and NCF-SE guidelines.

Schools have Two Choices:

Set up one Composite Skill Lab of 600 sq. ft. for classes VI-XII.
Or create two separate labs of 400 sq. ft. each—one for classes VI-X and another for classes XI-XII.

Implementation Timeline:

Schools applying for new CBSE affiliation need to have a Composite Skill Lab with all the necessary equipment and machinery.
Schools already affiliated with CBSE must set up a Composite Skill Lab within three years.

CBSE also suggests that schools offering skill subjects add more options. Schools that don’t offer any skill subjects yet should start offering at least one to give students more choices.
