The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has instructed all affiliated schools to adhere to the updated syllabi and textbooks for classes 3 and 6, which are being released by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). According to a circular issued by the board, schools are mandated to utilize the new textbooks published by NCERT until the year 2023.
"The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has communicated to CBSE via a letter dated 18.03.2024, indicating that new syllabi and textbooks for Grades 3 and 6 are currently in development and will be made available soon. Consequently, schools are advised to implement these new syllabi and textbooks for classes 3 and 6, replacing the textbooks published by NCERT until the year 2023," stated the official circular.
CBSE has also emphasized that NCERT is developing a bridge course for class 6 and concise guidelines for class 3 to facilitate a smooth transition for students to new pedagogical practices and study areas aligned with the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023. Once NCERT finalizes the guidelines, these resources will be provided to all affiliated schools.
The Board will additionally organize capacity-building programs for school heads and teachers to familiarize them with the new teaching-learning perspectives outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
However, CBSE has clarified that there will be no modifications in the curriculum and textbooks for other classes for the academic year 2024-25, commencing from April 1, 2024.
"It is crucial for schools to ensure compliance with the curriculum directives outlined in the initial pages of the curriculum document. Subjects should be taught in accordance with the prescribed curriculum, incorporating methodologies such as Multilingualism, Art-Integrated Education, Experiential Learning, and Pedagogical Plans, wherever feasible," stated the official notice.
