To effectively implement the new syllabus, NCERT's director Dinesh Saklani has urged the chairperson of CBSE to create awareness among school heads, teachers, and parents in affiliated schools.

In line with the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCFSE), NCERT is set to release a new syllabus for Class 3 and 6 to be taught from the upcoming academic session of 2024-25.

NCERT has planned to release books for these grades as Class 3 marks the commencement of preparatory education and Class 6 signifies the beginning of the middle stages. To ensure a smooth transition, NCERT has prepared a "bridge program" for Class 6 and brief guidelines for Class 3 for schools affiliated with CBSE, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS).

So far, NCERT has released teaching and learning material for the foundational stage based on NCF.

Implementation Strategies

NCERT has emphasized the importance of creating awareness among school heads, teachers, and parents about the suggested time allocations for Grades 3 and 6 as per the NCF-SE 2023. CBSE is urged to facilitate changes in school timetables according to local needs and contexts.

NCERT further encourages CBSE to focus on a holistic teaching approach, incorporating arts, physical education, well-being, and skill education alongside traditional subjects like language, mathematics, science, environmental education, and social sciences.

Introduction of New Study Areas

New activity books and textbooks based on the new syllabi will introduce students to areas including arts, physical education, vocational studies, and 'The World Around Us' for Class 3.

This approach aims not only to ease students' adaptation to the new curriculum but also to generate awareness about the updated educational perspective among parents and the wider community.

Recommendations by NCF-SE

According to NCF-SE, the working school year for preparatory and middle stages should have around 34 working weeks with approximately 29 instructional hours per week. It also suggests incorporating 10 bagless days mandated by NEP 2020 to reduce student burden.

The exact timings and order of subjects may vary based on local contexts and needs, ensuring a balanced and effective learning environment.
