NEET 2026 Update: 1 Ques Removed, 4 Bonus Marks for All Candidates — Last Date to Raise Objections

NEET 2026 Update: 1 Ques Removed, 4 Bonus Marks for All Candidates — Last Date to Raise Objections

The outcome of the Re-NEET 2026 test might be some days away yet, but already, over 22 lakh aspiring doctors have bagged four assured marks, even before finding out how well they did in the exam. How is that possible?

The NTA, that conducts the exam, has come out with the provisional answer key of Re-NEET UG 2026 held on June 21 under heavy security cover at over 5,000 centers all across India.

And in this provisional answer key, a question from Physics has been omitted from the paper. This has automatically ensured that 4 marks go into the bank of every candidate, irrespective of whether he or she answered that particular question.

4 Bonus Marks for Every Student

The marks for such a question, when it is taken off the test paper, get added to all those candidates’ scores who took part in the particular shift. Since Re-NEET UG 2026 is held in one shift only, the physics question which has been struck off would mean that 20 lakh plus candidates would receive 4 marks without any exception.

This is a definite advantage for all test takers.

A Second Physics Question Under Dispute

However, the controversial dropped question is not the only Physics question to attract attention. There was another Physics question in the exam whose two options were apparently marked correct.

Accordingly, for this question, if any candidate opted for one of the two correct options, he or she would get all 4 marks assigned to it. Simply put, the students do not lose marks because of the confusion – there are two correct answers.

Last Date to Challenge the Answer Key

Apart from the provisionally released answer key, the National Testing Agency has also released the objection window. If any candidate thinks that there is an error in the provided answer key, then he/she may challenge it via online mode.

The last date for challenging the answer key of Re-NEET 2026 is June 28, 2026. Don't be late in submitting your objections. Make sure to collect all your references and objections well in advance.

How to Raise an Objection (and the Fee)

Challenging an answer is a simple online process on the official portal:

  1. Visit neet.nta.nic.in
  2. Click the answer key challenge link
  3. Log in using your application number, password, and captcha
  4. Select the question(s) you want to challenge and choose your preferred correct option
  5. Upload supporting documents (NCERT or standard reference texts work best)
  6. Pay ₹200 per question challenged and submit

If a challenge is found valid and the question is dropped as a result, the fee is refunded. Subject-matter experts appointed by NTA review every objection before the final answer key is prepared.

What Does It Mean When a Question Is "Dropped"?

A question is dropped when it is found to be incorrect, ambiguous, or flawed in some way. Whenever a question is removed from a particular shift, every candidate who appeared in that shift receives full marks for it — regardless of how they answered.

Questions can be dropped for several reasons, including:

  • Two or more options being correct
  • A typing or printing error in the question
  • A mistake in the translation of the question

Since Re-NEET UG 2026 was a single-shift exam, the dropped Physics question applies uniformly to the entire candidate pool.

When Will the Re-NEET 2026 Result Be Declared?

Scores will be calculated using the finalized answer key after the window for objections ends on June 28. The NEET UG 2026 result can be announced around July 15, 2026 on the website neet.nta.nic.in.
