NEET UG 2026: NMC Bars Medical Staff Leave on May 2–3 Without Strong Reason
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has advised all medical colleges and institutions across the country not to grant leave to students on May 2 and 3, 2026, ahead of the NEET UG examination scheduled for May 3. This directive has been issued as a precautionary measure to ensure the fairness of the national-level entrance examination.
In a public notice issued on April 23, 2026, the NMC stated that this directive follows a communication from the Department of Higher Education, under the Ministry of Education, which emphasized the need to ensure the "sanctity and integrity" of the examination process.
The Commission has urged all medical colleges to remain vigilant and to sensitize students against engaging in any activity that could disrupt the conduct of NEET UG 2026. The Commission noted that the objective of the restriction on leave is to prevent potential malpractice.
The notice states, "Except in extraordinary circumstances with proper justification, leave should not be granted on May 2 and 3." This advisory has been circulated to the Deans and Principals of all medical colleges, as well as to officials in State and Union Territory administrations responsible for overseeing medical education.
This move comes amidst heightened scrutiny of entrance examinations in recent years, wherein authorities have tightened protocols to prevent irregularities and ensure a fair examination environment for the millions of candidates appearing for NEET UG.
The date for the NEET UG 2026 examination is May 3. The city intimation slips for the NEET UG exam were released on April 12, and the admit cards are scheduled to be issued on Sunday, April 26. This time, approximately 99.2 percent of the candidates have been allotted their first-choice examination cities.
The NTA has cautioned NEET UG 2026 candidates against fake social media channels—particularly those operating on Telegram—that falsely claim to provide examination question papers. Based on several complaints, the agency has warned candidates not to fall prey to such claims and has stated that strict legal action is being initiated against those spreading misinformation.
