NEET UG 2026 Re-Exam: New Security Rules Students Must Follow on June 21 - Check Full Details

Almost 23 lakh candidates will take part in the re-examination of the NEET UG 2026 which will be conducted on Sunday i.e., on June 21. They will experience the highest security arrangements in a national-level entrance examination.

The measures were taken after the paper leak incident that caused the cancellation of the NEET exam of May 3. The matter forced the National Testing Agency (NTA) to modify the examination protocol with the help of central security agencies, railways, school boards such as the KVS, and other organizations.

During the last hearing of the Supreme Court of India, NTA filed an affidavit that claimed that a 'High-Powered Steering Committee' examined each aspect of the re-exam. The committee gave a list of security measures to ensure the prevention of paper leaks, impersonation, and other frauds. The agency informed the court that the new examination is conducted under stringent security arrangements to restore the faith in the examination process.

According to the general guideline published by the NTA for the May 3 exam, candidates were to undergo thorough and mandatory frisking with highly sensitive metal detectors before they could enter the center. Candidates "may also undergo various other identity verification checks, such as Biometric Authentication, Face Authentication, videography etc."

This time, however, the guidelines have become even stricter.

Multiple Layers of Security Arrangements at the Exam Centres

Students will have to pass several stages of verification before they enter the exam centers. Aadhaar-based biometric authentication will become obligatory. There will be a facial recognition as well as live photography of the candidates to prevent impersonation and the use of proxy candidates.

The candidates will face strict frisking and scanning with metal detectors. Separate arrangements will be made for male and female candidates. All types of electronic devices – mobile phones, smart watches, Bluetooth devices, and other gadgets – will be banned inside the premises of the exam.

There will be security from the very beginning when candidates will get to the exam centers. Question papers will travel in sealed trunks transported by Indian Air Force aircraft in certain places. Trunks will be unsealed in designated strong rooms 45 minutes prior to the start of the exam, in the presence of district administration officials and police.

Surveillance with CCTV and Checks After the Exam

Each exam center will be under the surveillance of CCTV cameras. Before the exam, the NTA will arrange for the check of all camera systems and store the video feed for not less than 90 days. The surveillance, however, will not stop at the centers alone.

All live feeds from CCTV cameras will be simultaneously monitored by NTA control rooms, district administration, states, Ministry of Education, and other designated agencies. There will be flying squads, observers, and surprise inspections. A central command center will monitor everything happening in the whole country in real-time.

Moreover, NTA informed the Supreme Court that there will be the post-exam forensic analysis of the CCTV video footage to detect any suspicious activities that might remain undetected in live monitoring.

Security Restrictions During and After the NEET UG 2026 Re-Exam

Duration of the exam has been increased to 195 minutes for the candidates to undergo the additional security checks. Also, candidates will not be allowed to exit the hall before the end of the exam. This measure is supposed to prevent any possibility to transmit information outside during the ongoing exams in another place.

After the exam, the OMR sheets will follow the secure chain of custody. The answer sheets will be sealed, escorted by CRPF and CISF officials, and will be under CCTV surveillance till the time they are sent for evaluation.

NTA Sends Out WhatsApp Reminders, Warnings Against Fake Messages

NTA on Friday said it is sending reminders via SMS, email, and WhatsApp to the candidates to download admit card for the re-exam on June 21. The agency warned the students against fraudulent messages and fake communications. NTA said that the official messages will come from the sender ID "NICPEP" and the email address "no-reply.neet.nta@nic.in".

It was specified that NTA will never request payments, leak any question papers, and will not send any communication in the form of link. Candidates who already downloaded their admit card for June 21 do not need to download it again.
