No Increase in Assam HSLC Exam Fee 2024, Says Education Minister Ranoj Pegu

Assam's School and Higher Education Minister, Ranoj Pegu, has taken to social media to clarify that there will be no increase in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) or Class 10 examination fee for the Assam board. The minister has dispelled claims of a fee hike made by some sections of the media, labeling them as "false and baseless."

Pegu has affirmed that the examination fee structure for Class 10, administered by the Secondary Education Board of Assam, remains the same as the previous year. This structure entails a total fee of Rs 1,200, comprising an SEBA fee of Rs 700 and a practical fee of Rs 150. Importantly, students classified as Below Poverty Line (BPL) are exempt from fee payment.

"There is no hike in the examination fee of HSLC examination under SEBA. The fee structure is as it was in the last year. SEBA fee - ₹700, Centre fee - ₹350, and practical exam fee - ₹150; total 1200/-. All BPL students are exempted from paying this fee. The news circulated in a section of media is false and baseless," Pegu stated in a social media post, tagging the state chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, and the school education department.

The board recently issued the fee structure for Class 10 board exams in 2024, which includes exam and practical fees. Additionally, students are required to pay a Rs 350 center fee, along with an annual recognition fee that must be paid by the head of the institution.

Furthermore, the notification specifies that fee payment is exempted for candidates from government/provincialized and recognized venture schools whose parental income from all sources is Rs 2 lakh or below. This exemption applies exclusively to candidates who registered in Class 9 in the years 2021 and 2022.

Online registration for HSLC board exams will commence on October 9, with the application deadline set for October 31. SEBA has also issued instructions to schools regarding exam fee payments.
