The Ministry of Education has just announced the NIRF 2024 rankings, which highlight the top universities in India. Released on August 12, 2024, the rankings show that the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru is the top university in the country.
IISc has been a leading university for several years in a row.
New Categories and Future Plans
This year, the NIRF rankings include three new categories: Open Universities, Skill Universities, and State-Funded Government Universities. Anil Sahasrabudhe from AICTE also mentioned that a ‘Sustainability Ranking’ category will be added next year to focus on environmental issues in higher education.

Top 10 Universities in NIRF 2024
The NIRF 2024 rankings look at universities across India based on five main factors: Teaching, Learning, and Resources, Research and Professional Practice, Graduation Outcomes, Outreach and Inclusivity, and Perception.
