NIRF Ranking 2024 : IIT Madras Secures Top Spot in Engineering Category - Top 10 Engineering Colleges in India

The Ministry of Education has announced the NIRF 2024 rankings today, August 12. In the Engineering category, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has kept its top spot. IIT Delhi has moved up to second place, while IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, and IIT Kharagpur are ranked third, fourth, and fifth, respectively.
These rankings are based on five key parameters set by the Ministry of Education: Teaching, Learning and Resources, Research and Professional Practices, Graduation Outcomes, Outreach and Inclusivity, and Perception.

NIRF Rankings 2024 Comparison
The NIRF Rankings for 2024 show that the top four institutions remain unchanged from last year. However, there has been a shift in the fifth and sixth positions. In 2023, the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee was ranked 5th, and the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur was 6th. This year, IIT Kharagpur has moved up to 5th place, pushing IIT Roorkee to 6th.
The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad, and National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli have consistently held the 7th, 8th, and 9th positions in both 2023 and 2024.
This year, the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi has secured 4th place, pushing Jadavpur University out of the top 10. Last year, IIT BHU was ranked 15th.
Additional Details
The NIRF rankings were released online with Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and other notable guests present. The number of ranking categories has increased from 13 to 16. New categories for 2024 include Open Universities, State Universities, and Skill Universities.
