JEE Advanced 2026 Data Leak: 1.79 Lakh Student Records Exposed at IIT Roorkee
Even as days go by since the JEE Advanced 2026 results have been released, IIT Roorkee has admitted there is a breach in security that has exposed the data of candidates and their admit card documents. It has stated that it is a problem related to cloud storage and the correction measures are being taken.
This was revealed by a post by an anonymous user on social media platform X, where he/she alleged that the public cloud storage of JEE Advanced 2026 results system was configured in such a way that it is easily accessible without any kind of authentication. As per the post, the cloud storage system exposed nearly 1,79,600 records of result and about 1,87,300 admit card PDFs.
The cybersecurity researcher reported that the data exposed was related to candidate's name, date of birth, and mobile number. Screenshots uploaded with the post indicated admit card documents as well as results. In one of the screenshots, one could see many admit card documents with candidate's information and in another screenshot one could see structured result data including subject-wise marks, ranks and personal information with few areas redacted.
Another post by the cybersecurity researcher stated that it is a similar data exposure like that of the previous one regarding the expose of CBSE answer scripts that a student had reported last week.
Commenting on X in response to the post, IIT Roorkee expressed its gratitude to the researcher and also explained the problem to which it has happened due to cloud storage of data. It is stated as follows: "Thanks a lot for bringing this to our notice. We confirm that this particular exposure was with respect to one of our cloud storage devices. The same is being plugged on priority."
Thank you for the acknowledgment and for addressing the issue swiftly. Glad I could contribute towards improving security and appreciate the response from the team. Looking forward to continuing to support responsible security research. https://t.co/wy901wgIi1

Moreover, it mentioned that the data that was stored here was not writable. Therefore, any alteration could not happen in the stored data. "The data stored was read-only and so there was no possibility of any alteration. We applaud your responsible and ethical behaviour."
This was followed by the results announcement made by IIT Roorkee in the capacity of organizing the examination. JEE Advanced 2026 is the entrance examination conducted to give admissions into B.Tech/B.Arch programmes at the IITs.
