Q1. Why did Franz not want to go to school that day ? 

Ans. Franz was late for the school. He thought that the teacher would scold him, and he would ask questions on participles. Franz did not know anything about participles. So he thought of running away and spent the day out of doors.

Q4. What could be some of the reasons for the migration of people from villages to cities ?

Ans. The reasons for migration are many. Their fields and homes were swept away by frequent storms. They had nothing to eat. The another important factor is the destruction of traditional arts and crafts in the villages.

Q5. How, in your opinion, can Mukesh realise his dream ?

Ans. Yes, in my opinion he can realise his dream by working at some garage and to get the training of a motor mechanic.

Q6. Why should child labour be eliminated and how ?

Ans. It is a very shameful condition that India has the maximum number of child workers in the world. It is an inhuman practice. A child needs love and care. All the major industries employ a large number of child workers. Bangle industry in Firozabad, carpet industry in Mirzapur and fire-work factories in Sivakasi, thousands of children are working there. It is banned by the law, but no action is taken against such people. Strict action should be taken. Only exemplary punishment can put an end to this shameful practice.

Q7. How did the instructor "build a swimmer" out of Douglas ?

Ans. The instructor built a swimmer out of Douglas piece by piece. He was an experienced instructor for three months. He held him high on a rope attached to his belt. It went through a pully. The pully ran on an overhead cable. The instructor held on to the end of the rope. Thus the author went back and forth across the pool. He practiced for many weeks. The instructor taught Douglas to put his face under water and exhale and to raise his nose and inhale. Then Douglas had to kick with his legs for many weeks till these relaxed. After seven months the instructor told him to swim the length of the pool.

Ans. When Douglas got the training from the instructor, still he was in fear and doubt. He went to the pool and practiced for five days a week, an hour each day. The instructor put a belt around him and a rope was tied to the belt. The rope went through a pulley that ran an overhead cable. Douglas held one end of the rope and went back and forth across the pool. On each trip some of the terror would seize him up. After three months, the stress began to decrease, gradually he shed the panic. The instructor taught him to put his face under the water and exhale and to rose his nose and inhale. He repeated this excercise hundred times. Now he went to lake wentworth, in New Hampshire. He swam two miles across the lake. The old fear returned a little, but soon all fear flew away and swam on. Once he swam with determination across to the other shore and back. He shouted with joy and he had conquered his fear of water.

Ans. Douglas went many famous water spots in his country. But according to his belief whenever he wanted to put his feet under the water, the old fears would come to his mind. He became disappointed and all his joys of fishing, boating, and swimming get spoiled. That was why he was determined to get over his fear.

Ans. Douglas went to Lake wentworth in New Hampshire. He swam two miles across the lake. Then he went and camped by the side of the warm lake. The next morning he dived into the lake. He swam successfully to the other shore and back. He shouted with joy. Now he had conquered his fear of water.

Ans. The crofter was a lonely person. He was very happy to talk to the peddler to be away from his loneliness.

She gifted her a suit as a Christmas gift and offered him to stay with them in the next Christmas. When the peddler received the honour and respect without any selfishness, goodness aroused in him and fi-nally he changed his ways.

Ans. In Patna, Shukla led Gandhiji to the house of a lawyer Rajendra Prasad. The servants know shukla. He was a poor peasant of Champaran. He always troubled Rajendra Prasad to take up the cause of the indigo sharecroppers of Champaran. So, the servants took Gandhiji to be another peasants.

Ans. Gandhiji visited following places: Patna, Dr. Rajendra Prasad house, Muzaffarpur, Pro. Malkani's home and lastly Champaran.

Ans. The ordinary people were also interested in freedom movemend and they always stood with Gandhiji at every juncture. At Motihari, they flocked in thousands when they come across that Gandhiji was in trouble with the authorities. They were ready to do anything in this movement. Thus, here, we can say that ordinary people too contributed in the freedom movement.

Ans. Most of the celebrity writers despise being interviewed because they consider it as an unwarranted intrusion into their lives. They feel that it somehow diminishes them.

Ans. In this regard Eco has stated in his own words that the life of every person has empty space period with no important jobs. He says that he did most of his writing works during these free intervals. The fact is that he was writing on the same lines and same interest- peace, non-violence, etc. He saved his time, and he could write a lot in a short period of time. That was the secret of his writing.

Ans. The poor farmer was waiting for any car to stop and buy his product or ask about the prices of his products. But hardly any car stops there. In this way his longing proves vain. The poet calls it his "childish longing."

The weight of unpleasant band sits heavily upon Aunt Jeniffer's hand. Hence, she was finding difficulty to pull the ivory needle easily with her weak fingers.

Ans. The Tiger king is the Maharaja of Pratibandapuram. He gets this name for his skill in killing tigers.

Q31. What will the Maharaja do to find the required number of tiger to kill ?

Ans. Maharaja killed 70 tigers within ten years. But suddenly the tiger population in his kingdom became extinct. So, he wanted to marry in the royal family of a state with a large tiger population. So he ordered his dewan to find the right girl for him.

Ans. In present situation we can say that the future for the humankind can get in danger if the emission of carbon-dioxide and other poisonous gases continue in the same way. These gases deplete the ozone layer an allow the ultra-violet rays of the sun to enter the earth's environment. This cause the rise in temperature of the earth and giving rise to the phenomenon called global-warming. The increased temperature can melt the ice of Antarctica and cause the other envinronmental problems.

Ans. Antarctica is the place to go, to understand the earth's present, past and future because the world's geological history is trapped in Antarctica. Antarctica gives us an idea, how the earth would have been like millions of years ago and how it got divided into various earth masses. It reveals the developement of continents to get a grasp of where we have come from and where we could possibly be heading. The melting and colliding of ice masses also give us an insight into how our future is going to be, if we continue with interference in the working of the nature. The more important thing is that it holds in its ice-cores half million year old carbon records trapped in its layer of ice. Hence, the above statement is quite relevent.

Ans. The narrator was standing in the line of girls who were going into the dining room. These were Indian girls. All were in stiff shoes and closley clinging dresses. Small girls were sleeved aprons and shingled hair.
