NEET UG 2027 to Be Conducted in CBT Mode; Exam Pattern to Remain Unchanged, Says Education Minister

NEET UG, the national entrance examination for admission in the undergraduate medical courses, is all set to conduct the entire examination process in CBT mode starting from 2027. It has been informed earlier by the Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan.

In the new system, pen-and-paper mode of examination will be replaced where candidates will mark their answers on the OMR sheets. "The NEET examination will be conducted through computer-based test instead of OMR sheets," Mr Pradhan said.

As per the Education Minister, the move is aimed at making the process of examination more secured, transparent and efficient. In the 2027 examination cycle, candidates will appear in NEET UG through computer only and OMR mode won't be there anymore.

Sources quoted by PTI said that NEET UG 2027 may be conducted for at least six days at around 1,000 examination centers. NEET UG 2027 may follow the JEE model where candidates will take the examination in different shifts over several days.

Through CBT process, the students will read the questions and provide their answers on the computer screen rather than marking on the papers. However, there won't be any change in the overall NEET UG exam pattern.

It will comprise a total of 720 marks for the students. There will be questions from Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects, followed by the present NEET UG exam pattern.

At the same time, the Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan stated on Tuesday that the Central Government is ready to hold discussion on NEET related issues in the Parliament. He stated that the government will address every genuine concern of students raised following the protests led by Rahul Gandhi, Sonam Wangchuk and CJP.

"Our government is fully committed to having a discussion on NEET and address every genuine concern of our youth on the floor of the House," Pradhan said.

Also, he said that the students should not be considered part of any political campaign. As per him, what students need is clarity, certainty and practical solution.

"The students of India deserve far better than being treated as props in a political campaign. They deserve certainty over chaos, solutions over slogans and responsibility over disruption," he wrote.

Moreover, the Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan further said that the government owes an explanation to students about everything. He said that they owe students answers, reforms and accountability.
