In Punjab state the Punjabi language has been made a compulsory subject for all students studying in classes 1 to 10. The Chief Minister of Punjab Charanjit Singh Channi informed on Friday, November 12. He has also mentioned that schools will be fined up to Rs 2 lakhs for violation of this given order. This language has been made mandatory in offices as well. Punjabi will now be written on top of all the boards in the state.
Punjab State Language (Amendment) Bill 2021
On Thursday the Punjab cabinet passed two significant bills related to the Punjabi language which included ‘Punjabi and Other Languages Education (Amendment) Bill, 2021. Punjab State Language (Amendment) Bill 2021, makes the Punjabi language compulsory for students studying in classes 1st to 12th. Those schools who will not follow this, will be fined up to Rs 2 lakhs.
There is a condition to fine the schools if they violate this Act. Those who violate this rule For the First time for more than one month, shall be liable to a fine of Rs. 50,000. For the second time for more then one month school will be liable to a fine of 1 lakh rupees. If they violate it for the third time in more than one month, they will have to pay Rs 2 lakh as a fine.
