Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) has made significant changes to the pattern of the upcoming VITEEE 2026 entrance exam, which will impact engineering aspirants. The biggest change is the introduction of negative marking in the exam.

Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) has begun the VITEEE 2026 admission process. According to the new revised exam pattern, students will now be given negative marks for their wrong answers. Previously, there was no negative marking in the exam.

The marks assigned for correct answers have also been changed. Now, students will receive four marks for each correct answer. Other details of the exam pattern remain unchanged.

VITEEE 2026 Revised Marking Scheme

For each correct answer: You will receive four (4) marks.
For each incorrect answer: One (1) mark will be deducted (negative marking).
For each unanswered question: No marks will be deducted.

VITEEE 2026 Exam Pattern: Impact of Negative Marking on Students

The implementation of negative marking will impact students, as it will change the way they approach the exam. Previously, students could attempt all questions without fear of negative marking, but now they will have to be careful when choosing answers. Guessing is very risky, as it can cost a student 5 marks (1 negative mark and 4 marks they would have earned if they had answered correctly). Unanswered questions are not awarded, making this a safe option.

During preparation, students should focus on conceptual clarity. They should thoroughly understand the topics and concepts to feel confident while solving the question paper. While practicing for the exam, students should attempt questions with maximum accuracy. Prioritizing important topics and frequently repeated questions is also a good way to prepare for the exam.

VITEEE 2026 Registration Details and Important Dates

VIT has begun the VITEEE 2026 admission process and the official VITEEE 2026 application form has been released online on its website, viteee.vit.ac.in. Interested students can now register themselves.

Application fee: ₹1350

Tentative date for VITEEE 2026 exam: April 28 to May 3, 2026
