ICAI CA Foundation September 2026 Result: Kansika and Mahek Gupta Top with 90.25%

ICAI has announced the results of the CA Foundation 2026 September examination. It may be noted that both Kansika from Hisar and Mahek Gupta from Hyderabad have topped the CA Foundation 2026 September examination by getting AIR (All India Rank) 1. Both candidates have scored 361 out of 400 marks, with a percentage of 90.25 percent. The CA Foundation is the first level examination of the chartered accountant program. Clearing this examination marks the first step towards becoming a CA.

It is worth noting that Sparsh Khandelwal from Ajmer and J Jayanth from Chennai have clinched the second place by obtaining a score of 359 or 89.75 percent each. The third-place position is taken up by Vaibhavi Singhal from Gwalior who scored 358 or 89.50 percent marks. It can be seen from the above discussion that all the top five have scored over 89 percent marks.

From the list of toppers, there are five students who have managed to score the top three ranks. The gap between the top rank and the third rank is of only three marks. It shows that a small mistake can create a big difference in this ranking system.

How Many Candidates Passed the September 2026 Exam

The total number of students taking part in the examination was 1,04,240 out of which 19,736 passed it. The passing percentage was 18.93%. The examination was organized by the ICAI in 580 centres all over the country. This indicates that one out of every five students passed the examination.

Though the pass mark may seem rather discouraging if this is your first time writing a CA exam, it’s actually quite normal. The test involves four papers that cover the following topics: accounting, business laws, quantitative aptitude and business economics. It requires one to obtain at least 40% in each of the papers and an overall 50%. Most people tend to struggle with quantitative aptitude and accounting papers.

Gender-Wise Pass Rate Breakdown

Passing males were 10,931 out of 53,398; the percentage of passing is 20.47%. Females who passed the test are 8,805 out of 50,842, with a percentage of passing 17.32%. It can be seen that males have more passing percentage than females.

There was a disparity in the male and female pass rates of 3.15 percent points. Though there were higher numbers of male candidates who showed up and passed, the disparity between the pass rates needs to be looked into during future sittings. Both the categories had almost an equal number of candidates showing up, with males slightly outnumbering the females in numbers at 53,398 against 50,842.

How September 2026 Compares to May 2026

The passing percentage of 18.93 percent is less than the 20.09 percent that was achieved in the exams conducted in May 2026. In the former exam session, 18,124 had passed the Foundation level out of 90,217 students. In the September session, 14,000 more students had appeared for the test than the former test.

The drop of about 1.16 percent could be attributed to a number of possible reasons. With an increased number of candidates taking the test, there could be a higher proportion of first-time candidates who lack adequate preparation. This could mean that there was an ever-so-slightly more difficult exam and/or a more stringent marking scheme.

If you could not be able to clear the exam this time, there is nothing to worry about because you can attempt again in the next session. The ICAI organizes this Foundation exam two times in a year, which usually takes place in the months of May and September. This is the time when you can discover the areas where you lack proficiency.

How to Check Your CA Foundation September 2026 Scorecard

The result has been made available by the ICAI on their official website portal caresults.icai.org. You will be able to see your score card by entering your registration number as well as your roll number. It is always recommended that you should have both the numbers ready with you while visiting the website portal because the portal is highly accessed after declaration of results.

If the website doesn't load, wait a few minutes and try again. You can also try accessing the results late at night or early in the morning when traffic is lower. Save or print your scorecard once it loads, because you'll need it during the CA Intermediate registration process. It's a good idea to download a PDF copy and store it safely for future use.

What Comes After Clearing the CA Foundation

After clearing the Foundation test, the next thing you should do is to register for the CA Intermediate programme. The CA Intermediate programme is divided into two groups of exams. It is up to you to give an exam from any one group or even from both groups simultaneously. You must also undergo an article ship period, which means practical training under a practicing chartered accountant.
