The National Medical Commission, NMC has issued a clarification on whether National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) students are eligible to appear for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) Undergraduate 2025.
Responding to an RTI application on February 11, 2025, the NMC said, "It has come to notice that confusion has been created stating that the National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the NEET-UG Bulletin 2025, which is not in accordance with the NMC Regulations.
In this regard, it is clarified that the reply is given to the applicant who wants answers with regard to studying through National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS)/State Open Schools or private candidate."
Thus, the NMC said that studying through NIOS is permissible for appearing in NEET UG as per GMER-23 Regulations. It further said, "Students are allowed to study one additional subject from NIOS with the condition that the study should be done from an authorised institute."
Notably, the National Testing Agency (NTA) had started the online registration process for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG 2025) from February 7 at neet.nta.nic.in. Candidates can apply for the exam till March 7, 2025.
The entrance exam will be conducted offline on May 4 from 2 pm to 5 pm in a single shift using OMR sheets.
