CAT 2026 Last Minute Preparation Tips: 25-Day Revision Plan

CAT 2026 Last Minute Preparation Tips: 25-Day Revision Plan

With CAT 2026 scheduled for November 29, candidates now have limited time for preparation. The final 25 days should be used for revision, mock tests, question selection and improving accuracy rather than starting the entire syllabus again.

There will be three parts to the CAT 2026 exam: VARC, DILR, and QA. The current format comprises 68 questions to be answered within two hours, where 40 minutes are given for each part.

The best way to approach your studies at this stage is to break down the few remaining days into three stages: conceptual revision, rigorous practice, and preparation for the test itself. There is no point spending a lot of time studying irrelevant topics which haven't been explored by you till now.

CAT 2026 Exam Pattern: Quick Overview

Section Questions Time
VARC 24 40 minutes
DILR 22 40 minutes
QA 22 40 minutes
Total 68 120 minutes

CAT examination has a unique 40-minute timer for each section. There is no carry forward of any unused time to the next section. CAT exam has MCQ and TITA type questions. Three marks are awarded for correct responses, whereas wrong MCQ response results in deduction of one mark.

CAT 2026 Last Minute Preparation: 25-Day Plan

The following plan is designed for candidates who have already covered most of the basic syllabus and now need focused revision.

Days Main Focus What to Do
Days 1–5 Concept revision Revise important formulas, concepts and frequently tested question types
Days 6–10 Sectional practice Solve timed VARC, DILR and QA sectional tests
Days 11–17 Mock tests Take full-length CAT mocks and analyse them carefully
Days 18–21 Weak areas Work specifically on recurring mistakes and low-scoring topics
Days 22–23 Full revision Revise formulas, shortcuts, vocabulary and important approaches
Day 24 Final mock Take one complete mock under actual exam conditions
Day 25 Light revision Review mistakes and formulas; avoid heavy new preparation

Days 1 to 5: Revise Important Concepts

The first five days should be used to strengthen concepts that you've already studied.

VARC

Focus on:

  • Reading comprehension
  • Para summary
  • Parajumbles
  • Odd sentence questions
  • Reading speed and comprehension

Don't try to memorise large vocabulary lists at this stage. Instead, spend time reading short editorials, articles and passages and practise identifying the central argument.

DILR

Revise common set types such as:

  • Tables and charts
  • Arrangements
  • Games and tournaments
  • Selection and distribution
  • Venn diagrams
  • Case-based data

The main objective is to improve your ability to identify the right set quickly.

QA

Prioritise topics you've already prepared, particularly:

  • Arithmetic
  • Algebra
  • Geometry
  • Number system
  • Modern mathematics

Revise formulas and standard methods instead of spending hours learning completely unfamiliar concepts.

Days 6 to 10: Start Timed Sectional Practice

After making the revisions, it is time for timed practice. Take a section-wise test in each subject, and analyze it once completed. It’s not only the score that you should be concerned about; look at:

  • What questions took more time?
  • Which errors could have been avoided?
  • Which topics need improvement?
  • How many questions were left unanswered though you knew the solution?
  • Were you spending too much time on a difficult question?

Make an error log of all the errors made and the reason behind them.

Days 11 to 17: Take Full-Length CAT Mocks

This will be the most intense phase of the 25 day preparation.

Sit for a complete CAT mock in exam-like conditions. Follow the sectional timings of 40 minutes each and do not stop the test during the process.

After each mock, devote sufficient time to analyzing it. Mocks are of no use unless you analyze why you have lost marks. Classification of errors:

  • Conceptual errors - You did not know the process.
  • Calculation or reading errors - You knew the process but made some mistake.
  • Selection errors - You wasted time on tough questions or chose the incorrect DILR set.

The third type of error is especially significant in case of CAT because selection of questions is critical to your score.

Days 18 to 21: Fix Your Weak Areas

Apply the feedback from your test analysis in deciding which areas require revision.

It is unnecessary to redo the whole syllabus. It is necessary to identify which concepts are constantly causing you to lose marks.

For instance, if your QA time-taking area is arithmetic, then revise only those questions. If you find yourself choosing tough DILR sets consistently, then try revising the set selection aspect.

The aim for this period must be minimizing mistakes, not increasing study areas.

Days 22 and 23: Revise Formulas and Shortcuts

Remember these two days to do quick revision.

QA: Revise important formulae and techniques of calculation. For DILR: Revision of approaches to solve sets of various kinds. VARC: Revision of your approach to solving RC and verbal questions.

Revision of mistakes from your diary or analysis of mocks is more important than buying a new prep-book at this stage.

Day 24: Take One Final Full Mock

Schedule one practice test on Day 24.

As far as possible, try to stick to the process that you will be following in the real CAT examination. Take the whole test in one go without any interruptions.

Avoid drastic alterations to your test-taking process after just one practice test.

Day 25: Keep Preparation Light

Last day should not be another hectic study day. Revise:

  • Important QA formulae
  • Popular approaches to calculations
  • Your repeated mistakes
  • Approach towards DILR set selection
  • Approach towards VARC attempt
  • Instructions for exam day

Have enough sleep and do not take any tough mock late at night. Goal is to reach the examination center relaxed.

Section-Wise CAT 2026 Last-Minute Strategy

VARC

Don't attempt to comprehend every passage the same way. Recognize the passages that you feel at home with and divide your time wisely.

Do not rush through everything; try to comprehend what the author is saying. Do not spend many minutes stuck on one particular question.

DILR

The selection of the right set is very important. You should take some time in the beginning to select sets which seem workable.

When a set does not progress for several minutes, you should switch sets. Being stuck in a single set will take away a lot of time from the 40-minute session.

QA

Start with questions you can solve confidently. Don't let one difficult algebra or geometry question consume several minutes.

Prioritise accuracy over blind attempts because incorrect MCQs carry negative marking.

What Should You Avoid in the Last 25 Days?

Do not make the following mistakes:

  • Beginning many new books or courses
  • Attempting mocks without analysing them
  • Sitting through an entire day on one poor area
  • Not considering DILR set choice
  • Remembering a lot of new content
  • Sitting through many mocks without revising
  • Changing strategy after each mock
  • Not getting proper sleep and breaks

The fact that you attempt many mocks doesn't necessarily mean you are prepared. The most important part is the analysis of the mock.

CAT 2026 Last-Minute Preparation: Final Strategy

The rest of the days should be dedicated to improving whatever knowledge you have gained until now. Concentrate on accuracy, timing, and question selection.

CAT 2026 is going to take place on November 29, 2026, and the examination will be conducted according to the three sections of VARC, DILR and QA, taking 40 minutes each.

Don't judge your preparation according to the amount of practice that you have done till now. Your primary objective should be minimizing mistakes, selecting questions wisely and following an exam approach consistently in the last few days before the exam.
