PARAKH, a unit of NCERT, has suggested a new way to evaluate Class 12 board exams. According to their report, 'Establishing Equivalence across Education Boards,' student scores from Classes 9, 10, and 11 should be included in the Class 12 results. The idea is to use 15% of marks from Class 9, 20% from Class 10, and 25% from Class 11 to calculate the final Class 12 score.
In July, PARAKH sent this proposal to the education ministry to make evaluations consistent across all school boards. It’s important to know that this is just a suggestion and hasn’t been put into practice yet. Any reports saying that CBSE will use marks from Classes 9-11 for the 2025 Class 12 results are not true.
The new framework aims to balance ongoing and final assessments. It’s meant to give a complete view of a student’s skills and readiness for further studies or jobs. The plan includes different ways to assess students, like using portfolios, self-assessments, and tests based on skills.
NCERT’s Suggested Assessment Plan
The new assessment plan for Classes 9 through 12 combines regular and final assessments to provide a full picture of student progress. Here’s what it includes:
For Classes 9 and 11:
-
Term I: Assessments will use Holistic Progress Cards (HPCs) and cover methods like Portfolio Assessment, Self-Assessment, Peer Assessment, Teacher Observation, Group Work, Laboratory Activities, and Group Discussions. The End Term Assessment will be skill-based, using the Integrated Test Management System (ITMS).
-
Term II: This term will follow the same methods as Term I but will also include Project Work and Paper Presentations. The End Term Assessment will remain skill-based, with ITMS and teacher-selected content.
For Classes 10 and 12:
-
Classroom Assessments: These will involve HPCs with Portfolio Assessment, Self-Assessment, Peer Assessment, Teacher Observation, Group Work, and Laboratory Activities. The End Term Assessment will use skill-based methods with ITMS and teacher-selected questions.
-
Term II: This term will add extra assessments like Project Work, Paper Presentations with viva voce, and Group Discussions.
