After a meeting presided over by Gujarat's Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and attended by education minister Kuber Dindor and other high-ranking officials, the state government has introduced modifications to the Class 10 and 12 state board exams for the academic session 2023-24.
These adjustments in the Class 10 and Class 12 exam structure have been formulated in alignment with the National Education Policy 2020. The key alterations announced by the Gujarat board encompass a notable increase of 10 percent, shifting the weightage of objective questions from 20 percent to 30 percent, while for descriptive questions, the weightage has been reduced from 30 percent to 20 percent.
Furthermore, Class 12 science students affiliated with the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) have been granted the opportunity to take one or all supplementary exams in June and July to enhance their results, with the best score of the attempts being considered.
In addition, Class 10 students are now eligible to participate in supplementary exams for three subjects, as opposed to the previous limit of two subjects. Similarly, for Class 12 students in the general stream, they can partake in supplementary exams for two subjects, instead of just one.
In the Class 12 science stream, 50 percent of the questions will continue to be multiple-choice questions (MCQs). Nevertheless, a modification has been introduced for the remaining 50 percent of descriptive questions. Instead of offering internal choices within questions, students will be provided with general options from within the question paper.
