IIT Roorkee will conduct the JEE Advanced 2026 exam on May 17, 2026. Through this exam, students can get admission to undergraduate programs at 23 IITs across India. Only the top 2,50,000 qualifiers of JEE Main 2026 are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced.

Who Can Appear for JEE Advanced 2026?
A candidate is eligible for JEE Advanced 2026 if they meet the following criteria:
- ✅ Ranked among top 2,50,000 candidates in JEE Main 2026 Paper 1 (BE/BTech)
- ✅ Within the prescribed age limit
- ✅ Haven't exhausted their two attempts
- ✅ First Class 12 attempt in 2025 or 2026
- ✅ Not admitted to any IIT earlier
JEE Advanced 2026: Detailed Eligibility Criteria
Criterion A1 – JEE Main 2026 Performance
Candidates must rank among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates in JEE Main 2026 BE/BTech paper.

Category-wise Reservation:
- GEN-EWS: 10%
- OBC-NCL: 27%
- SC: 15%
- ST: 7.5%
- OPEN (all): 40.5%
A 5% horizontal reservation is available for PwD candidates within each category.
Criterion A2 – Age Limit
- General candidates must be born on or after October 1, 2001
- SC, ST, and PwD candidates get 5 years relaxation (born on or after October 1, 1996)
Criterion A3 – Number of Attempts
- Each candidate can appear for JEE Advanced a maximum of two times
- Both attempts must be in two consecutive years
Criterion A4 – Class 12 Examination
- Candidates must have appeared for Class 12 (or equivalent) for the first time in 2025 or 2026
- Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics must be compulsory subjects
- Those who appeared first time in 2024 or earlier aren't eligible
Exception: If a Board declared results for 2023-24 academic year on or after June 18, 2024, then candidates appearing in 2024 are eligible.
Criterion A5 – Earlier IIT Admission
- Candidates already admitted to any IIT aren't eligible
- Those whose admission was cancelled after joining an IIT are also ineligible
- Candidates admitted to a preparatory course in 2025 may appear for JEE Advanced 2026
JEE Advanced 2026: Programs Offered
Through JEE Advanced, IITs offer admission to undergraduate programs including:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
- Integrated Master's Degree
- Bachelor-Master Dual Degree
- Programs in Sciences and Architecture
Supernumerary Seats for Female Candidates
As per the Ministry of Education's directive, supernumerary seats have been introduced for female candidates. This step aims to achieve at least 20% female enrollment in undergraduate courses at all IITs.
These seats will be offered to Indian nationals and OCI/PIO (I) candidates who qualify in JEE Advanced 2026.
JEE Advanced 2026: How Will the Rank List Be Prepared?
Candidates must appear for both Paper 1 and Paper 2 to be considered for ranking. The aggregate score will be calculated by adding marks from all three subjects – Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
In Case of Tie:
- Step 1: Higher positive marks will get a higher rank
- Step 2: If still tied, higher Mathematics marks will be considered
- Step 3: If tie persists, Physics marks will be considered
- Step 4: If no distinction, candidates will get the same rank

Note: No waiting list will be maintained. Only candidates meeting minimum subject-wise and aggregate marks will be included in the final rank list.
