NIT Delhi — Three New Programmes

1. B.Tech — Artificial Intelligence and Data Science

NIT Delhi launched this program during the 2023-24 academic session under the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. According to the institute's curriculum page, this program covers the standard CSE core curriculum alongside Machine Learning algorithms, Deep Learning, Data Analytics, Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, and Big Data Systems.

The JoSAA seat matrix indicates that this program has a total of 20 seats, comprising quotas for both the Delhi region and other states. On its B.Tech curriculum page, the institute clarifies that this is a distinct program—separate from the regular CSE degree—and follows a revised, NBA-compliant curriculum structure effective from the 2023-24 session.

2. B.Tech — Aerospace Engineering

Aerospace Engineering at NIT Delhi started in 2024 with a sanctioned intake of 24 students. The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering focuses on preparing students to face challenges in the space programme and to nurture innovation and creativity in the field. This is a great option for students interested in aviation and space technology.

3. B.Tech — VLSI Design and Technology

This programme was launched in the 2024–25 session alongside Aerospace Engineering. It's offered under the Electronics and Communication Engineering department. The curriculum covers the full cycle of chip design — from device physics and circuit design to verification, layout, and fabrication processes. The JoSAA seat matrix shows an intake of approximately 25 seats, split across home-state and other-state quota.

NIT Rourkela — B.Tech Artificial Intelligence

NIT Rourkela introduced BTech in Artificial Intelligence starting from the academic year 2024–25, under the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. The department’s official page describes its curriculum as designed to prepare students who can apply computer science principles across a wide variety of fields, with laboratories covering artificial intelligence, soft computing, parallel algorithms, database engineering, computer networks, and image processing.

The AI programme has a seat intake of 45. Admissions are through JoSAA and CSAB counselling based on JEE Main rank. The programme is a standalone four-year degree, distinct from the regular CSE programme that the department has offered since 1987.

NIT Kurukshetra — Two New AI Programmes

1. B.Tech — Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AIML)

The Department of Computer Engineering introduced this programme from 2023–24 with an intake of 60 students. The curriculum covers computational mathematics, core computer science, artificial intelligence, data science, and machine learning — both foundational and advanced.

2. B.Tech — Artificial Intelligence and Data Science

This is a separate programme launched from 2024–25 with an intake of 60 students. It has its own scheme and syllabus, focusing on data infrastructure, data pipelines, statistical modelling, and large-scale data systems alongside the AI core. Both programmes are distinct from each other.

NIT Surathkal (NITK) — B.Tech Artificial Intelligence

NIT Surathkal's Department of Information Technology runs BTech in Artificial Intelligence as a programme separate from BTech in Information Technology. The aim is to empower students to build intelligent machines, software, and applications using machine learning, data analytics, and data visualisation technologies.

NIT Warangal — B.Tech Data Science and Artificial Intelligence

NIT Warangal, ranked 21st in NIRF Engineering Rankings 2024, added BTech in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence from 2024–25. This is a distinct branch from the existing CSE programme and carries a separate JoSAA branch code. Admissions are through JoSAA counselling based on JEE Main AIR.

NIT Calicut — B.Tech CSE with AI & Data Science

NIT Calicut introduced this programme from 2023–24 under the CSE department framework. It's a full four-year BTech focusing on Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. Admissions are through JEE Main and JoSAA counselling. Students get a CSE degree with a specialised focus on AI and data-driven technologies.

NIT Trichy — B.Tech Data Science

NIT Trichy, ranked 9th in NIRF Engineering Rankings 2025 and consistently the top-ranked NIT in India, added BTech in Data Science from the 2025–26 academic session. This is a separate four-year degree programme. Admissions are through JEE Main and JoSAA counselling. Given NIT Trichy's reputation, this programme is likely to attract strong competition.

NIT Silchar — B.Tech CSE (Artificial Intelligence)

NIT Silchar has introduced BTech in CSE with Artificial Intelligence as a distinct programme with its own JoSAA programme code, separate from the regular CSE programme. It entered the JoSAA seat matrix in 2023 with an intake of approximately 30 seats.

Why Should You Consider These New Programmes?

Most students and parents focus only on well-known branches during JoSAA choice-filling. But these new programmes offer several advantages. They're offered at reputed NITs with strong placement records. The curriculum is more aligned with current industry demand — especially in AI, Data Science, and chip design. Seat intake is lower, which may give students with slightly lower ranks a chance to get into a top NIT. These are future-ready programmes with strong career prospects in technology, research, and analytics.
