NEET UG 2026: MBBS Seats Rise to 1.40 Lakh, State-Wise List

MCC has declared the provisional allotment result of Round 2 counselling for NEET UG 2026. MCC is the government body responsible for distributing seats of medical colleges at the national level. The final allotment list will be declared soon. The provisional allotment list includes seats allotted during Round 2 counselling of MBBS/BDS under All India Quota along with other seats being handled by MCC.

The latest seat matrix was also made available along with the Round 2 process. The seat matrix is the official record that shows the number of seats available for each state and college. NMC has added 13,186 MBBS seats in 27 states and UTs. The new seat matrix contains 1,40,214 MBBS seats in total.

Which States Added the Most MBBS Seats

The maximum number of MBBS seats was increased by Karnataka, and the number was 1,650. Karnataka now has a total of 15,745 MBBS seats that are in 76 medical colleges. Second to Karnataka is Tamil Nadu, which has 1,250 new MBBS seats, and the total becomes 14,299.

Karnataka's 1,650 new seats make up roughly one-eighth of every seat added in this matrix. Tamil Nadu, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh each crossed the 1,000-seat mark too. These four states together account for 5,340 of the 13,186 new seats.

Seven States and UTs Recorded No Increase

These seats do not have an even distribution over the country. There are several states and UTs where there is no growth in the matrix at all. Out of 34 states and UTs, 27 have gained seats while seven others have gained nothing.

The seven UTs that have gained nothing are Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Delhi, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland. In the matrix, their figures remain 114, 100, 177, 1,415, 250, 100 and 100 respectively.

Smaller Seat Additions in Other States

The matrix also includes some very small gains. Himachal Pradesh added a single seat, and Manipur added 25. Chandigarh, Goa, Punjab and Tripura each added 50 seats. Assam, Odisha and Sikkim each added 100.

What NMC Told Counselling Authorities

A direction has been given by the NMC regarding how the counselling authority is to utilize the matrix approved. In case there is a deviation found in it by the counselling committee, then it has to be referred to MARB. Admission against seats exceeding the number approved by the MARB cannot be made by the counselling committees.

With this addition, the total number of MBBS seats comes to 1,40,214. The earlier total number before the addition of 13,186 seats is 1,27,028.
