Assam Board Class 10, 12 Exam Could be Cancelled, But Why?

Assam State CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Thursday the state board will be conducted from the 15th July, if COVID-19 positivity cases drop down below 2% . In a press conference held on the completion of 30 days of his government Mr. Sharma said, A series of meetings were held by the education department with the parents, student’s organisation and other stakeholders and they are in favour.
Several state boards have cancelled their board exams due to the COVID-19 Situation. Although the decisions of state’s started coming very rapidly when the center government on 1st June announced the cancellation of CBSE Class 12th Board Exam. However, the Assam board has not cancelled their board exams yet.
Mr. Sharma said “The schedule for the examinations will be announced within the next few days but with the rider that the positivity rate in the state comes down to less than two per cent,”
The current COVID positivity rate in the state is 3.24%.
The examinations will be held for one or two days with strict compliance of Covid protocols and the question papers will be of objective type, Assam CM said.
“The matric (Class 10) and the higher secondary examinations are important as several empowering schemes like handing laptops and scooties are linked to these examinations,” he said.
However, if the positivity rate is above two per cent on July 1, the board examinations will be cancelled, as we cannot take risk with the lives of students”, Sharma said. If the examinations are cancelled, schools will be directed to conduct the evaluation for which the modalities will be worked out and Education Minister Ranoj Pegu will announce it accordingly, he further clarified.
The Assam Board class 10th and 12th exams were scheduled to be held in May. But due to the rise of COVID-19 (Second-Wave) Cases the examination was postponed.
