CBSE Re-Evaluation Row 2026: Marks Cut in Subjects Students Never Applied For, Result Changed from Pass to Repeat

CBSE Re-Evaluation Row 2026: Marks Cut in Subjects Students Never Applied For, Result Changed from Pass to Repeat

Two students of Faridabad were shocked after their CBSE Class 12 answer sheets were re-evaluated. They were expecting that their marks would improve in the papers that they applied for the improvement of marks. However, the surprising thing is that while their marks improved in those subjects that they applied for, the board deducted the marks from other subjects for which they did not apply.

Therefore, both the students' results were changed to "Pass" to "Repeat in Theory (RT)," which means that now they face problems with college admission. This is an instance that has occurred from DAV Public School in Faridabad. Such an incident has arisen at a time when CBSE faces severe criticisms regarding its OSM system.

There are many complains raised by students against the evaluation and re-evaluation process and marks.

What Happened With the First Student

As reported by Times of India, the first student applied for re-evaluation only in Chemistry and Home Science, once the results were declared on May 13, 2012. The changes can be better understood from the following table:

Subject Re-Evaluation Applied? Old Marks New Marks
Chemistry Yes 42 (RT) 52 (Pass)
Home Science Yes 70 79
Mathematics No 46 40

Both of the topics requested by the family showed some improvement. However, the family soon discovered that the Mathematics score, despite not being requested for review at all, had fallen from 46 to 40, putting the student back in "Repeat in Theory (RT)" status.

The Same Thing Happened With the Second Student

Secondly, the student who requested for re-evaluation was only for the subjects of Physics and Computer Science. Improvement was noticed in both the subjects. However, on the new mark sheet, the marks of Chemistry were reduced from 52 (Pass) to 43 (RT), despite the fact that no request for re-evaluation of the same was made by the student.

College Admissions at Risk

Both the families have lodged complaints in the CBSE regional office. It is not fair to alter the marks in subjects which were not sent for re-evaluation. They argue that admissions to universities are taking place very rapidly and if this problem is not sorted out immediately, then both of them will end up losing an entire academic year.

The School Has Also Asked for Help

DAV Public School has sent a letter to CBSE Controller of Examinations, requesting immediate action. The institution is asking for an explanation from CBSE about how the scores were modified without revaluation in subjects which have never undergone revaluation according to the report.

The Principal mentioned that this situation has emotionally affected both parents deeply. As she put it, “The children are very stressed. One parent mentioned that they keep the child company at all times due to this stress.”

Were Grace Marks Taken Away?

According to the school management, it was stated by the CBSE officials to be a policy issue but in an informal manner. The school said that while the marks had been improved wherever required, the grace marks provided initially had been withdrawn.

Fix the Mistake Before Admissions Close

The principal stated that, “No such policy is known to us, and CBSE hasn't issued such a notice. If that is the case, it should have been communicated clearly.” The school principal stated that if the mistake wasn’t corrected at the earliest, both students would have to appear in the compartment exam even though they have performed well in those particular subjects.

The parents have requested the CBSE to correct the mistake before the admission portal closes. They now feel that it is not just an issue of marks anymore.
