CAT 2024 : Score Normalization Explained – All You Need to Know

The Common Admission Test (CAT) 2024 will take place on November 24, 2024, with three sessions planned. Each session will have a unique test form. To ensure fair scoring across sessions, candidates’ scores will go through a Normalization process for equal comparison.

The Normalization process adjusts scores for differences in test locations and scoring scales across different test forms. After Normalization, scores will be further balanced across sections. The final scaled scores will then be converted into percentiles, which are used for shortlisting candidates.

For score reporting, the scaled scores for each section—Section I: Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC), Section II: Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR), and Section III: Quantitative Ability (QA)—along with the total and percentiles, will be published.

The Normalization process in CAT is similar to the one used in other large exams in India, like the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), helping to make scores comparable across multiple test forms.

CAT 2024 is required for admission into various postgraduate and doctoral programs at IIMs. Scores are also accepted by certain non-IIM institutions listed as CAT-participating colleges.
