The wait is finally over for MBA aspirants. CAT 2025 concluded on November 30, 2025, with IIM Kozhikode successfully conducting all three exam slots across the country.

Thousands of candidates appeared for the much-anticipated management entrance test, and now everyone's asking the same question—how difficult was it really?

When Did the Exams Take Place?

The day was divided into three testing windows:

Slot Exam Time Reporting Time
Morning 8:30 AM – 10:30 AM 7:00 AM
Afternoon 12:30 PM – 2:30 PM 11:00 AM
Evening 4:30 PM – 6:30 PM 3:00 PM

What Did the Paper Look Like?

The exam stuck to its familiar three-section format with 68 questions in total:

  • VARC (Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension): 24 questions
  • DILR (Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning): 22 questions
  • QA (Quantitative Ability): 22 questions

Each section had a 40-minute time limit, giving candidates exactly two hours to complete the entire test.

Expert Verdict: Slightly Tougher Than Last Year

According to Ramnath Kanakadandi, Senior Course Director at T.I.M.E Institute, CAT 2025 turned out to be a notch harder than CAT 2024. The main culprits? A tricky DILR section and lengthy calculations in Quant that ate into precious time.

That said, there were no nasty surprises in terms of question types or overall pattern.

Breaking Down Each Section

VARC: Manageable with a Few Twists

The reading comprehension portion featured four passages with 16 questions. Topics ranged from tech tools and Mexican cavefish to literary spaces and scientific instruments. Most passages were moderate in difficulty, though one proved particularly challenging.

On the verbal ability side, candidates encountered Para Formation (which made a comeback this year), Para Summary, Sentence Placement, and Odd One Out—two questions from each type.

DILR: The Real Challenge

This section lived up to its reputation as the toughest part of CAT. With 22 questions spread across five sets, test-takers faced a mix of logical reasoning puzzles and data interpretation challenges.

Some notable sets included problems on balls and hoops, music gurus and their students, bar charts combined with Venn diagrams, and sustainability indices. Experts recommend the "Balls and hoops" set as a must-attempt, while two other sets were deemed quite difficult.

Quant: Familiar Territory with Heavy Calculations

Arithmetic and Algebra dominated the 22-question Quant section, just as expected. Geometry contributed three questions, while Numbers and Modern Math had just one question each.

The section was doable for well-prepared candidates, though the calculations were time-consuming and required careful attention.
