What's New This Year for CBSE Class 12 Students?

Several important changes have been introduced for the 2025-26 academic session. Here's a quick look at what's different this year:

S.No. Key Change What It Means for Students
1 On-Screen Marking (OSM) Faster result processing
2 Competency-Based Questions 50% weightage on analytical skills
3 Two-Attempt System Improvement exam option in June/July
4 Skill-Based Subjects New practical learning courses
5 Strict Sectional Answering Answers must be in correct sections
6 Mandatory APAAR ID Digital academic tracking for all students

1. On-Screen Marking (OSM) System

CBSE has rolled out digital on-screen evaluation for Class 12 answer scripts. This is a major reform in how papers are checked. The new system has cut down the evaluation time from 12 days to just 9 days. As a result, students can expect their scores much sooner than before.

2. Competency-Based Questions Get More Weight

In alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the CBSE has increased the weightage of competency-based questions to 50%. This marks an increase from the 40% figure of the previous year. These questions include Multiple Choice Questions and Case Studies. This shift will encourage students to focus on analytical thinking rather than rote learning.

3. Two-Attempt Initiative for Better Scores

CBSE is moving toward a "Two-Board" system. Students who aren't happy with their results can now take an Improvement Exam in June or July 2026. They can reattempt up to three subjects. The best score from both attempts will appear on the final marksheet. This gives students a real second chance to improve.

4. Skill-Based Marksheets

New skill-based subjects have been added to the practical learning curriculum. These include Design Thinking and Innovation and Electronics and Hardware. The goal is to prepare students with real-world skills along with academic knowledge.

5. Strict Sectional Answering Rule

For subjects like Science, students must write their answers within the correct sections only. For example, Physics answers must be in the Physics section, Chemistry in the Chemistry section, and so on. If answers are written in the wrong section, they won't be evaluated. So students need to be extra careful while writing their papers.

6. Mandatory APAAR ID for All Students

All students must now register through the Pariksha Sangam Portal. After registration, they'll get a unique APAAR ID. This ID will be used for digital academic tracking across their education journey.
