CBSE 12th Result 2026: Pass Percentage Falls 3.19%, Here's the Reason
CBSE declared the Class 12 results on May 13, 2026. This year, the pass percentage fell from 88.39% in 2025 to 85.20% in 2026, marking a drop of 3.19 percentage points.
Out of 17,68,968 students who appeared, 15,07,109 passed. Girls performed better than boys, with an 88.86% pass rate, while boys recorded 82.13%.

The difference in the overall pass percentage stood at 3.19 percentage points.Girls continued to outperform boys in the examinations. Girls recorded a pass percentage of 88.86%, while boys secured 82.13%.Transgender candidates achieved a pass percentage of 100%.
Experts say the fall may be due to tougher Physics and Mathematics papers, the introduction of on-screen marking, and a stronger focus on competency-based questions under NEP. Some educators also believe that Covid-era learning gaps affected this batch.
CBSE has not directly linked the drop to digital evaluation, but experts say students must now focus on clear handwriting, well-structured answers, proper diagrams, and step-by-step presentation.
