CBSE Board 2026: New Re-evaluation Rule Released - Here's How Marks Will Be Updated
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has shared important information to clear up student concerns about how answer scripts are evaluated. The Board has confirmed that students won't lose marks if they answer more questions than required in papers that offer internal choices. In such cases, the system checks every answer the student has written, but only the one with the highest score is added to the final result.
Many students spotted differences between the marks written on their answer sheets and the marks shown in their final results after they received the scanned copies. CBSE has now explained the full process behind this. According to the Board, when a student attempts extra questions, marks are given for each of them during evaluation. But only the answer with the highest score is counted in the final result. The other answers are marked with an asterisk (*) on the answer sheet, so students can quickly see which marks were added to their final score.
Re-verification and Re-evaluation Open Since June 2
The portal for re-verification and re-evaluation of the 2026 board exams opened on June 2, 2026. Students can apply online until June 6, 2026. This facility is only available to students who've already downloaded a scanned copy of their answer script.
CBSE Re-evaluation 2026 Fee Details
CBSE has also set the fees for this process. Students who want their answer scripts checked for errors must pay ₹100 per answer sheet. The fee for re-evaluation of a specific question is ₹25 per question. All payments have to be made online.
Through this process, students can ask for verification of technical issues like missing pages, supplementary sheets that weren't recorded, scanning errors, blurred pages, or marks that weren't counted for maps or graphs. They can also request a re-evaluation of one or more questions. The Board has advised students to submit a single application each for verification and re-evaluation. Students should also enter the correct question numbers and page numbers while filling out the form. This will help reduce delays and errors during the process.
