CBSE Clarifies: OSM Portal Not Hacked or Compromised; Full Details Inside
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has clarified that its On-Screen Marking (OSM) portal was not hacked. The Board stated that no security breach was detected on the portal used for the evaluation of answer sheets.
Recent posts on social media claimed that the OSM portal had been hacked. A user named 'X' stated that they had hacked the portal in February and reported its vulnerabilities to India's Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In).
Sources revealed that the portal referred to by the user was a fake one. CBSE clarified that the actual evaluation portal is distinct and that "neither has it suffered any breach, nor does it contain the vulnerabilities mentioned in the said social media post." The URL in question was merely a test site containing sample data, with no actual evaluation records or student marks.
However, sources indicated that the Board's post-result services portal did contain certain vulnerabilities, which are currently being rectified before the portal reopens for verification and re-evaluation requests. CBSE had previously expressed apprehension regarding "multiple attempts at unauthorized interference" on this portal, and students had lodged complaints regarding erroneous fee deductions.
CBSE has received 4.04 lakh applications for scanned copies of answer sheets—a figure more than three times the 1.31 lakh applications received last year. Students have requested a total of 11.32 lakh answer sheets, of which 8.98 lakh have already been distributed.
On Tuesday, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan held discussions with four public sector banks—SBI, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, and Indian Bank—regarding the upgradation of CBSE's payment gateway. They plan to incorporate features such as robust security measures, real-time monitoring, expedited grievance redressal, and automated refunds for erroneous payments.
