CBSE OSM System Active: Re-Evaluation Process Starts for 1.6 Lakh Students

CBSE has initiated the re-evaluation process for Class 12 answer sheets on its new OSM (On-Screen Marking) platform. The board claims that this new system is more secure, faster, and more transparent than the previous one.

According to sources, the new portal is performing well in its initial phase, and the re-evaluation work is proceeding smoothly. This platform was developed in collaboration with experts from IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur. Specialized cybersecurity tests were also conducted to ensure its security, revealing no major technical flaws.

According to CBSE data, over 1.60 lakh students applied for marks verification and re-evaluation between June 2 and June 7. These students have requested a re-examination of more than 3.8 lakh answers in total. Earlier in May, over 4 lakh students had applied to obtain scanned copies of their answer sheets.

A key feature of the new OSM system is that examiners performing the re-evaluation see only the specific answers against which students have raised objections. Furthermore, teachers cannot view the marks previously awarded during the assessment process, an approach intended to make the evaluation fairer. In many instances, the same answer is being evaluated by more than one expert.

Education experts believe that this digital system could prove to be a significant step towards CBSE developing a completely independent and indigenous evaluation platform in the future.

However, some students have complained that they have not yet received their scanned answer sheets. Many students state that the delay in receiving the copies prevented them from filing objections within the stipulated timeframe. Such complaints have also surfaced on social media. As of now, CBSE has not issued an official response regarding these grievances.

Through the new OSM platform, CBSE is striving to enhance transparency and technical efficiency within the country's largest board examination system. Now, the eyes of students and parents are fixed on the extent to which this new system can inspire confidence and satisfaction regarding the results.
