The Indian Institute of Science Bangalore (IISc) has reported that the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2024 witnessed over 1.37 lakh applications on a single day. In response, the institute has extended the regular registration deadline to October 5, allowing more aspirants to apply without incurring late fees.

The GATE registration link for 2024 is hosted on the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) at goaps.iisc.ac.in. This examination serves as a gateway for candidates aspiring to pursue postgraduate (PG) and direct doctoral programs in IITs and IISc, and it also plays a crucial role in the recruitment processes of various Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) based on GATE scores.

Originally, the deadline for GATE 2024 registration was September 29, with a late fee option available until October 13. However, due to the overwhelming response, the regular registration period has been extended to October 5.

The IISc released a statement, saying, "GATE 2024 received more than 1,37,000 applications today! To enable more aspirants to apply for GATE 2024, registration (without late fee) is being extended until October 5, 2023. Late fee will be applicable after October 5, 2023. Please do not wait until the last date. Apply right away! GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS): https://goaps.iisc.ac.in."

GATE 2024 will feature 30 different test papers, covering a wide range of disciplines, including engineering, science, architecture, and humanities. The examination is scheduled to take place on February 3, 4, 10, and 11, 2024.

Notably, IISc had previously announced that GATE 2024 had received nearly 25% more applications compared to the previous year, showcasing the growing interest and significance of this examination."
