JEE Main 2023 : NTA Revises 75% Eligibility Criteria; Top 20 Percentile Students Eligible
For the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) 2023, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has relaxed the 75 percent eligibility criteria.
According to an official notification, students who have scored 75% marks or are in the top 20 percentile in Class 12 of any education board will be eligible to seek admission to the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and to appear for JEE Advanced 2023. Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates will require 65% marks. The decision comes after several students demanded relaxation of 75% eligibility criteria.
“National Testing Agency is in receipt of numerous representations from the stakeholders regarding to change the criteria of 75% marks in the Class 12 examination,” said NTA in the official notice.
Notifying the changes in eligibility criteria for JEE Main 2023, NTA said, “For the candidates who qualify for admission in the NITs, IIITs and such other CFTIs whose admissions are based on the JEE (Main) ranks, they should have secured at least 75% marks in the Class 12 examination or be in the top 20 percentile in Class 12 examination conducted by respective Boards. For SC / ST candidates, the qualifying marks should be 65% in the Class 12 examination.”
Earlier, the candidates who qualify for admission to NITs, IIITs and CFTIs and for admissions based on JEE Main 2023 rank, should have secured at least 75% marks in the Class 12 examination conducted by the respective boards.
The Bombay High Court has refused to postpone JEE 2023 first attempt scheduled to be held from January 24. The high court was hearing a petition seeking JEE Main 2023 postponement and relaxation in 75% eligibility criteria.
